On Monday, Sept. 21, Western Illinois University held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new Emergency Operations Center, cementing WIU's emergency management program and Law Enforcement and Justice Administration spot as one of the nation's best.

This new center, located on the first floor of Sallee Hall, will allow WIU to offer the only known available apprenticeship opportunities to Emergency Management and Public Safety students in the nation. The EOC was made possible with the receipt of a $2.3 million Illinois Emergency Management Agency grant.

Speakers at the ribbon cutting ceremony included WIU President Kristi Mindrup `00, LEJA Director Jamie Johnson `97 `98, U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman.

A week ago today, we officially opened the Goldfarb Center for Performing Arts at WIU. We started the afternoon with a reception where we celebrated donors who provided substantial support for the building and toasted this important milestone for the campus.

After the reception, we relocated to the Great Hall for the official ribbon cutting and remarks from several people crucial to the success of the project, including President Emeritus Al Goldfarb.

It was a great afternoon with hundreds of attendees exploring this beautiful new facility and a great moment for WIU!
