πβ¨ Some graduation stories stay with us long after the ceremony ends. β¨π
When Maria Fantozzi was just 9 or 10 years old, she wrote a heartfelt note describing what a teacher truly is. In it, she reflected on teachers as educators, listeners, protectors, counselors, and friendsβpeople who make a lasting difference in the lives of their students.
Years later, that young student has become a future educator herself.
Maria, from Haddon Township, New Jersey, recently graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Elementary Education and endorsements in Middle Level Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. She hopes to teach students in grades 3β5 or middle school classrooms, inspiring the next generation just as her teachers inspired her.
At graduation, Maria shared that childhood note with Dr. Jim La Prad, Director of the School of Educationβa touching reminder that the dream of becoming a teacher often begins long before college.
Her story reminds us that great teachers leave footprints on our hearts, and sometimes those footprints lead students right back into the classroom as educators themselves.
Congratulations, Maria! Your future students are fortunate to have a teacher who has understood the value of education for so many years. ππππ
