School is out for Summer, but we managed to fit in one more great K-12 Physiology Outreach Event at Ebeling Elementary teaching 6th grade students about Tissues and Healing! 🫁 🫀 🩻 🦴 Thank you to Ebeling Elementary School, Robyn Pizzo, Dalia Elsouhagi, Megan Niedzwiecki, Subha Bhaskaran, Oakland University Department of Biological Sciences, Utica Community Schools, and our OU Biology student volunteers!

Let’s get Physiological 💪🏻Another great K-12 Physiology Outreach event organized by Dalia Elsouhag! These 6th grade students got to experience just how fun Physiology can be! Big thank you to Warren Woods Middle School, the 6th grade Science teachers, Oakland University Biology Department, our OU student volunteers, and everyone who participated to help make the event great! Our annual MPS conference is more than a conference. It’s about students and trainees presenting their research for the first time, mentors making connections, institutions from all over Michigan coming together, and a community growing stronger.

We’ve grown from 56 attendees to 160+, and we’re proud of the engagement, professional development, and networking we’ve been able to offer through our all-volunteer organization.

Even with $3,400+ in savings from meal opt-outs, unexpected expenses like $2,200 in parking fees have put added strain on our budget.

MPS 5th Annual Mid-Year Symposium – A Great Success!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our virtual Mid-Year Symposium! We welcomed over 30 attendees and featured 9 outstanding trainee presenters sharing lightning talks across a wide range of physiology topics — from cardiovascular responses and hypoxia tolerance to glaucoma, POTS, sickle cell disease, female athlete health, and professional identity development.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Brittney Borowiec, for an engaging session on science communication, including her “10 Tips for Better Communication.” We’ll be posting the keynote on our website soon — stay tuned!

👀👁️👂Last week, our Ebeling Elementary School sense-explorers dove into the wonders of the human body — from seeing and hearing to touching, tasting, and sniffing! It’s amazing how much our senses let us sense together. Thank to you to Ebeling Elementary, our Oakland University Department of Biological Sciences and MPS volunteers for helping young minds get a real feel (and smell, sound, sight, taste) for physiology.
