Help us welcome Merrick to MATRX! 👋💙

Today we welcomed Merrick, who is completing her final clinical rotation with us before graduating from Oakland University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program!

Merrick also earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Oakland and is excited to strengthen her neurologic rehabilitation skills during her time at MATRX. She has a special interest in working with individuals with Parkinson’s disease and loves learning from people with all different diagnoses and goals.

When she’s not at MATRX or studying, you’ll find Merrick reading, doing Pilates, trying new local restaurants and coffee shops, spending time with friends, family, and her dogs—and, by her own admission, doing a little too much online shopping. 😉

She’s looking forward to getting to know our patients and families, learning from our team, and making the most of her final clinical experience.

Welcome to the MATRX family, Merrick! We’re excited to have you with us for the next 12 weeks! 💚

What happens after physical therapy?

It's a question we think about a lot at MATRX, because therapy shouldn't be the end of someone's journey. For some people, the next step is continued skilled therapy. For others, it might be adaptive fitness, recreational activities, adaptive sports, or simply finding ways to keep moving in everyday life.

The right answer depends on the person. What matters is that there is a next step. That's why we believe neurologic rehabilitation should connect people to opportunities beyond the clinic.

Build capacity.
Build confidence.
Find meaningful ways to participate.
Keep moving forward.

Recovery doesn't end when therapy ends. The next chapter matters, too. 💚

Keep building.

That’s the idea behind adaptive fitness at MATRX.

Physical therapy may help someone build capacity for a specific goal, but maintaining and expanding that capacity takes continued practice.

Strength.

Endurance.

Confidence.

Consistency.

And sometimes…a community of people who will encourage you to keep going when things get hard.

Everyone comes in with different abilities and different goals, but everyone has an opportunity to keep building.

The work doesn’t end when therapy ends. 💚Keep moving. Keep challenging yourself. Keep discovering what’s possible!

Sometimes progress looks like getting out and doing the thing. 🚴

Tonight’s adaptive bike group was another reminder that movement doesn’t have to happen inside a therapy clinic to matter.

It’s about getting outside.

Finding your people.

Building confidence.

Challenging yourself.

And having somewhere to go when you’re ready for the next adventure.

That’s why we love adaptive recreation.

Rehabilitation builds possibilities. Community helps us live them.

💙 Stronger Together.

Progress doesn't always look like a bigger number.

Sometimes progress is walking farther.
Sometimes it's needing less assistance.
Sometimes it's being able to get dressed independently.
Sometimes it's having the confidence to try something you were afraid to do six months ago.
And sometimes progress is simply having the endurance to participate in something you love.

In neurologic rehabilitation, meaningful progress can look very different from person to person. That's why we don't want to measure success only by what happens during a therapy session.

We want to know:
What can you do now that matters to you?
The ultimate goal isn't simply to improve a number, it's to expand what's possible in your life.

💚 Rediscover Possible.

The work doesn't stop when therapy ends. That's one of the reasons we believe adaptive fitness matters.

Strength.
Endurance.
Confidence.
Community.

These aren't things that belong only inside a physical therapy session. They're tools that help people keep participating in the things they care about.

Every Friday, we get to watch people challenge themselves, encourage each other, and keep building on everything they've worked so hard to achieve.

Different goals.
Different abilities.
Different starting points.
One community moving forward together.

Stronger Together.

Today we’re headed to the water! 🛶

We’re excited to spend the day volunteering with Disability Network Eastern Michigan for adaptive kayaking and their stroke support group.

We’re looking forward to a day of movement, connection, and community.
