Some Ohio private school tuition rates are in the range of $30,000. A private school in Houston charges $52,000. Even with an Ohio $8,400 voucher, most poor folks would not be able to enroll in these private schools.

The average private high school tuition rate in Ohio is $11,233. On average, poor kids will not be enrolling in private schools. The voucher project that was designed to allow a private school education for poor kids, now excludes poor kids.

Voucher policy was initiated by using poor kids as a ploy to ultimately transfer public school funds to private school patrons who have the financial resources to pay their own way.

With vouchers new to Texas, see the tuition at Houston's most expensive private schools for the 2025-2026 school year. 27 schools have tuition topping $30K

Arizona, the model for voucher programs across the country, has spent so much money paying private schoolers’ tuition that it’s now facing hundreds of millions in budget cuts to critical state programs and projects.

When EdChoice expansion income limits were removed, private school voucher use more than tripled from 23,272 students to 88,095. State expects to spend $1.16 million on vouchers next school year.

Voucher rhetoric is weird.

Voucher enthusiasts are skillful in the use of rhetoric that is deceptive and often just weird such as:

Government i.e., tax funding of private school vouchers is a moral imperative.

This is like saying that tax revenue shall be provided to individuals who choose to purchase membership in a private country club. It is a moral imperative that tax money is available to folks who choose to join a country club instead of using the public parks.

Vouchers are the civil rights movement of modern times

The civil rights movement involved the practice of denying services or benefits simply because of race, color, national origin, or disability.

Those who are receiving school vouchers were not denied a seat in public school classrooms.

Vouchers for low-income children is the most important social justice issue of our times. Vouchers give poor children the same right to private school as affluent children.

The voucher zealots debunked their own argument by the demand for universal vouchers. An Ohio Senator who enthusiastically advocates for vouchers recently said that it is about time for parents in affluent districts to get some of their tax money back in the form of vouchers.

Poor kids’ parents typically cannot afford the difference between the ever-rising private school tuition rates and the amount of the voucher.

Parents have the right to tax-funded school vouchers.

So, then individuals have the right to vouchers for recreational pursuits, family vacations, international travel, a safari in Africa, a vacation house on a lake on the taxpayers’ dime.
