A few C1 engines are out in Hot Springs as part of severity resources. Colton is assigned to the Hot Springs Field Office as Initial Attack resource. Tea FD T6, North Marshall T6, and Miller TFLD(t) are assigned to the Fire Fox 1 Surge Taskforce. Colton T6 has responded to multiple fires in the Hot Springs area and Fire Fox has been several fires as well near Devils Tower Wyoming. Madison FD will join force early next week.

During the 2026 Legislative Session, SB 136 was passed which appropriated funds to the South Dakota Firefighters Association and the South Dakota Department of Public Safety in part to assist with the purchase of firefighter personal protective equipment for volunteer fire departments statewide.

The Hot Springs building is dedicated to Trampus Haskvitz, a firefighter who died fighting the Coal Canyon wildfire in 2011.

Our firefighters play a key role in keeping our state strong, safe, and free. They deserve proper equipment and facilities so they are prepared for the dangers they face every day. S131 class exercise 1.5 hours into the final exercise and students are still actively engaged and not showing signs of slowing down! At this rate we might have to find sleeping arrangements. Great work!
