I didn’t start The Reid House to create a smaller version of a traditional classroom.

I started it because I believe learning should look different.

You won’t find letter grades, standardized testing, or endless multiple-choice worksheets here.

Instead, you’ll find children who learn at their own pace, meaningful conversations, hands-on projects, books that come to life, life skills, and a teacher who truly knows each child.

Education should be about more than preparing for a test. It should prepare children for life.

Looking at this picture reminds me exactly why I chose this path. Every child deserves to be known, challenged, encouraged, and excited to learn.

We’re enjoying our break this week, but I already can’t wait to welcome everyone back. 💙

Just because we’re on break doesn’t mean the learning has stopped. 💙

One of my favorite parts of our schedule is building in intentional breaks. They give students time to rest, explore their own interests, spend time with family, and come back excited to learn again.

When we return, we’ll be diving into new projects, hands-on learning, and plenty of adventures. Until then, enjoy the slower pace—we’ll see our Navigators soon! ⚓

Step right up to the County Fair! 🎟️🐷

To celebrate wrapping up our Term 1 book study of Charlotte’s Web, our elementary students stepped into the world of Zuckerman’s farm today! The afternoon was packed with hands-on, cross-curricular learning:

Literacy & Creative Writing: Students brought the classic to life through character reflections, creative storytelling, and detailed vocabulary study inspired by Charlotte’s famous webs.

STEM & Design: Young learners used measurement, geometry, and engineering skills to design classic carnival 🎡 rides.

Financial Literacy & Mentorship: Our middle school students teamed up to run the fair’s concession stand, guiding elementary learners as they practiced calculating costs, budgeting their fair tickets, and making change in real-time.

We are so proud of the creativity, hard work, and collaboration across grade levels today. Some pig, indeed! 🌟✨

🏆 70% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE SCORING IN THE TOP 10% NATIONALLY IN MATH.

Read that again. 📣 70%.

And no, this isn’t by chance.

At The Reid House, we’ve created a learning environment where students are given something incredibly valuable: time.

Time to master a skill.
Time to ask questions.
Time to move ahead when they’re ready.
Time to receive help when they need it.

We don’t believe a child should sit and struggle for weeks simply because the class has to keep moving. We meet each student exactly where they are, build on what they already know, and then set goals that challenge them to keep moving forward.

Some students need more time. Others are ready to soar ahead. Both are okay.

Our students aren’t being pushed through a one-size-fits-all pace. They are being challenged at their level—and the results speak for themselves.

70% in the top 10% nationally in math.

That’s not luck.
That’s individualized learning.
That’s intentional teaching.
That’s The Reid House. ⚓️

This morning started like most of our mornings do—with a room full of kids, conversations happening in every direction, and everyone settling into the rhythm of the day.
Then the learning began.
Some students were working independently. Others were gathered around a table, talking through a problem together. Someone needed help, someone else had an idea, and before long, they were teaching each other.
There were moments of focus, moments of laughter, a few “wait… I get it now!” moments—and plenty of little opportunities to practice something that doesn’t show up on a worksheet: how to be part of a community.
That’s one of our favorite things about The Reid House.
We’re not just watching children grow academically. We’re watching them become more independent, more confident, more willing to try, and more comfortable asking for help.
Every day looks a little different.
But every day, we’re guiding the way through learning and life. 🧭

At The Reid House, one of our most important life skills is building community. We cheer each other on, share laughs, help one another, and create memories together.

Community isn’t something we simply talk about; it’s something we intentionally build through shared experiences. These moments teach kindness, teamwork, empathy, and belonging in ways that can’t be replicated in a classroom.

We’re grateful for days like these that remind us learning isn’t just about what we know—it’s about who we become and how we care for the people around us.

There’s something special about learning that students don’t even realize is a math lesson. 💙🎲

Today at the Reid House, one roll of the dice became a multiplication challenge as students built arrays with modeling dough. They rolled, created equal groups, visualized multiplication, and discovered that math makes a lot more sense when they can see it and touch it.

Hands-on learning helps turn abstract concepts into lasting understanding—and it’s a whole lot more fun, too.

Not every child learns the same way—and we believe that’s exactly how it should be.

That’s why we use a combination of thoughtfully selected curriculums, including an adaptive learning platform that blends one-on-one support, self-paced learning, and meaningful hands-on experiences.

With access to more than 20,000 standards-based skills, students aren’t simply working through lessons—they’re working on the skills they need most. Real-time feedback allows us to continually assess progress, adjust instruction, and create personalized skill plans that meet each child where they are.

Because learning isn’t about keeping up with everyone else. It’s about growing from where you are today.

We want our kids to do more than find the right answer.

We want them to understand it.

To touch it. Move it. Build it. Question it. Get it wrong. Try again.

Because sometimes the simplest materials create the deepest learning.

And play and learning are not exclusive. In fact, some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are given the freedom to explore, experiment, and enjoy the process. 🤍

Sometimes growing looks like this.

A little unsure. A little messy. One foot hanging off the edge, figuring out what comes next.

And maybe our job isn’t always to tell them how to climb higher. Maybe sometimes it’s simply to be the safe place they can climb from.

A place where they can try, stumble, laugh, wonder, and become.

Because growing takes courage—and courage grows best where you feel safe. 💙
