You submitted the BCA/BT application. Here's what should happen next:

✅ Your Math, Science, and English teachers and the guidance counselor each receive an email invitation from the system. Check with each of them that it arrived.
✅ BCTS emails you within 5 business days to confirm the application was accepted — or to explain what to fix so you can resubmit.
✅ Login credentials for the student portal, studentrecs.bergen.org, arrive within 3 business days of approval.

The personal statement is done — now come the supplements.

Some schools ask for two. Some ask for twelve. And the most common mistake students make is recycling one answer across all of them.

Here's what we tell our students:

✅ Research the school, not the ranking. Name a specific program, professor, or tradition. "I love your campus" doesn't stand out — specificity does.

✅ Write a new draft for each school. It takes more time, but it's the difference between blending in and standing out.

✅ Keep it short and honest. Most supplements are 150–250 words. Every sentence has to earn its place.

📌 Parent tip: Ask your student how many supplements are due and help them map one per day. The pace matters more than the order.

HSPT registration closes Friday, October 23

For families in the Archdiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Paterson, the Cooperative Admissions Program (COOP/HSPT) is the entrance exam for Catholic high schools. It's open to current 8th graders, and one registration sends scores to up to three high schools.

Key dates:
✅ October 20 — eligibility forms due for extended testing time
✅ October 23 — registration closes at
✅ November 1–5 — test admission letters emailed to parents
✅ November 6 — test day, 8:00–11:45 a.m. (8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. with approved extended time)
✅ November 14 — makeup date at select sites for registered students who miss November 6
✅ December 9 — ninth-grade applicant records due to the high schools
✅ January 11 — results emailed to parents · January 15 — schools notify applicants

Before you start the form, have your child's current school, a full address, a parent email address, and a major credit card ready. Registration has to be completed in one session, and you're only registered once you receive the receipt with a COOP Student ID and Test Admission Letter Code.

If your child is strong in math, this is worth knowing about.

The AMC — American Mathematics Competition — is a national math competition held every November. There are three levels:

AMC 8 for grades 6–8
AMC 10 for grades 9–10
AMC 12 for grades 11–12

It tests the kind of math that doesn't show up on a regular test — pattern recognition, creative problem-solving, reasoning under time pressure. Admissions offices at selective colleges know exactly what a strong AMC score means.

Most families in Bergen County only hear about it through word of mouth, and often too late to prepare. Targeted practice changes the outcome here — these problems have structure, and the skills are teachable.
