A School Day Without Cell Phones
This year, we made the decision to make our school day a “no cell phone” zone for our middle and high school students.
It has been so encouraging to see our students at lunch actually engaging with one another instead of being absorbed in their phones.
God created us for community. We were made to know one another, encourage one another, laugh together, serve one another, and build meaningful relationships.
One of the unexpected blessings of this change has been watching our students engage with each other again.
They’re talking.
They’re laughing.
They’re playing games.
They’re sitting together.
They’re actually present with one another.
And it has been such a blessing to see.
We can’t truly love others and build deep relationships if we’re constantly living in our own little digital world. Learning to put the phone down and be present with the people God has placed around us is an important part of growing up.
For our middle and high school students, we want school to be a place where they don’t just learn academics, but where they learn how to live in community, love others, and be fully present.
And honestly, seeing our students rediscover the joy of simply being together has been one of my favorite parts of this change. ❤️
