At 18, Jasmine Ford is already an award-winning fashion designer. Her handmade dress won a silver medal at the national 2026 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) conference this summer. Before that, it won first place at the state level. 🪡👗

Jasmine took up sewing as a pandemic project and discovered FCCLA through her culinary arts teacher. With dreams of making fashion her career, the E. C. Glass High School senior has quickly made a name for herself as one of the nation’s most promising young designers.

Shoutout to Hannah Palmore, a teacher at Bass Elementary School! 🌹

“This teacher has helped my child develop a whole different attitude about school and learning–that it is okay to try again until you get it right. He is so excited about her class every day. Her tone, class vibes, and personality are such a great fit for the first graders.” -LCS parent

Shoutout to Patricia Finn-Rapiejko (better known as PFR), a teacher at E. C. Glass High School! 📚

“She's one of my favorite teachers. I had her for my freshman and senior years, and she was hilarious and inspired critical thinking. I only wish that I had her for more of my high school career.” -LCS graduate

Shoutout to Tonya Martin, a teacher at Perrymont Elementary School! ❤️

“This is my 5-year-old daughter's very first year of school ever, and Ms. Martin has made her transition into kindergarten absolutely amazing. After her very first day, my daughter was so overjoyed that she had me calling family members and great-grandparents so she could tell everyone about the new friends she made. On just her second day of school, she came home and wrote her full name completely by herself!” -LCS parent

This summer, E. C. Glass High School senior Madison Coghill spent a week learning about environmental science and conservation from experts, scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers. She represented Lynchburg as a National Youth Delegate to the prestigious 2026 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment (WYSE) at George Mason University. 🌱🌎🇺🇲

Madison is among a select group of high-performing students from across the country who were chosen to participate. She says her experience in AP Environmental Science class helped fuel her passion for sustainability. After graduation, she wants to study environmental science and eventually work in sustainable agriculture.

“WYSE inspired me in my career journey and taught me how to network. It opened my eyes to different perspectives on environmental conservation strategies,” Madison said.
