Two Linkhorne Middle School students brought Lynchburg history to national audiences on Wednesday. “From One Pool to a Revolution: Camp Kum-Ba-Yah and the Ripple of Inclusion,” a short documentary by Sydney Huffman and Adalyn Sheaffer, was played at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. 🎥
The state award-winning video was chosen alongside 21 other student documentaries from 169 submissions for a National History Day showcase.
In 1961, Lynchburg closed all its public pools to resist integration. In response, Camp Kum-Ba-Yah opened the camp’s pools to the local community, allowing people of all races to swim together. The documentary reflects on the impact of this important historical moment on its 65th anniversary.

This past weekend, the E. C. Glass High School boys’ lacrosse team was on the way to the state championship in Leesburg when the charter bus they’d rented broke down.
As soon as LCS bus driver Frank Mack heard what had happened, he jumped into his bus and drove three hours in the rain. He transported the team to the playing field and cheered them on as they won the Class 4 championship game against Salem High School.
Afterward, Frank took the student-athletes back to Lynchburg. They were even treated to a celebratory police es**rt.
Shoutout to Frank for transporting the team to triumph. And congratulations to the E. C. Glass boys' lacrosse team on this momentous victory! 🚌🥍🏆

The Class of 2026 will graduate on Sunday, and many are taking home more than memories as souvenirs from their senior year. One day, when they want to reminisce about their high school days, grads can crack open their school yearbook and be transported back to their alma mater. 🎓💙
For decades, The Crest yearbook has captured the essence of E. C. Glass High School and the people who make it special. The latest edition is no exception.
The Crest’s value isn’t just sentimental. Under LCS Teacher of the Year Ashley Marot, the student-led yearbook has been featured in the prestigious national “Portfolio: The Best of Varsity Yearbook” publication each year since 2025. It also won the highest awards in the Virginia High School League contest in 2024 and 2025.
