Lynchburg City Schools will open on a two-hour delay on Friday, January 21, 2022. Because temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, the LCS team will monitor conditions in the morning and provide updates, if needed.

Maintenance and custodial staff should report at the normal time.
The Virginia Education Foundation graciously donated books to Lynchburg City Schools. Their mission is to support and promote organizations that will enhance children's literacy, school readiness, grade level reading, and school success for children and youth in Virginia. To celebrate, LCS will be hosting a "Blizzard of Books!"

Students in Pre-K through Grade 5 will be visited by the Book Bus and have an opportunity to select a book of their very own to read and enjoy through winter break. Middle school students will visit their libraries to select their book choice. Each student will receive a bookmark with activities that can be done at home to go along with their new books. We hope that each family will be able to spend some time reading together during winter break.

Every child, by name and by need, to graduation and beyond. Please refrain from personal attacks towards students, staff and other commenters.

After a summer of focused academics and aquatic fun, they’ll go back to school ready to knock their classes out of the park–and backstroke through any bodies of water they encounter along the way. 🏊🏿

E. C. Glass Theatre alumna Maggie Contreras is taking the film world by storm. Her documentary “Maestra,” an audience award winner at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, follows five international competitors in the world’s only competition for female orchestra conductors. It’s a love letter to the women’s perseverance and passion as they stake their claim in a field dominated by men.

“It was at E. C. Glass where I first understood that a career in the entertainment industry was something achievable,” she said. “Because my teachers brought in LCS alumni to speak with students, I discovered that my dream job was a real job.”

Now based in California, Maggie will return to Lynchburg for a special “Maestra” screening and Q&A at the Academy Center of the Arts on Saturday at 4 p.m. 🎻🎥🍿
