New Vistas School

Today, at Commencement, several awards were given to both Lower and Upper School students. The following awards were given: Cinda and George Hurt Award for Academic Excellence. Donna and Gary Clark Award for Outstanding Progress, and Lois and Serge Asensio Award for Citizenship. Award recipients were honored with blue ribbon medals. We are quite proud of all nine recipients! In addition to awards for students, we had the honor of recognizing two others NVS community members. Ellen Humphrey, Upper School Science Teacher, joined the New Vistas School community 11 years ago and has dedicated 37 years to teaching in both public and private schools. She has been an invaluable member of our faculty, truly fulfilling our mission on a daily basis. We wish her well in her retirement! Secondly, we also recognized our outstanding Volunteer of the Year, Jennifer Moon. Mrs. Moon is not only a volunteer, but substitute teacher, and parent to Senior, Sloan Moon. She is frequently seen, on campus, addressing any volunteer needs of the school. We are grateful for her devotion to NVS!

Today, New Vistas School held Commencement exercises at neighboring West Lynchburg Baptist Church. Faculty, staff, and students were joined by members of the Board of Directors, parents, grandparents, siblings, alumni, and friends to honor our seven graduating Seniors and their individual notable achievements during their time at NVS. Special remarks were made on behalf of each student, by guest speakers, highlighting their accomplishments, given abilities, strengths, and unique service to others. It is our privilege to recognize New Vistas School’s Class of 2026. We would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our graduates, Sawyer Dalton, Spencer Dalton, Sloan Moon, Holland Patrick, Isabel Spencer, Matthew Tucker, and Cam Wells, for their years of continued academic and social growth. These mighty seven worked diligently during their years at NVS, and we will fondly remember them for their devotion to their school and fellow students. Sawyer, Spencer, Sloan, Holland, Isabel, Matthew, and Cam, you certainly shined as the remarkable Class of 2026, and we remain so proud of each of you. May your future endeavors continue to support your full potential. Congratulations, all!

Students gathered outside to sign one another’s yearbooks. The Upper School Publications Class did a phenomenal job designing a colorful, celebratory yearbook for all to enjoy.

To celebrate all of the Elementary students’ accomplishments, Ms. Bell, with Ms. Gajewski’s help, threw an end-of-year Glow Day party. Students enjoyed popcorn, cookies, and lemonade, while taking part in many fun glow activities.

Ms. Humphrey’s Upper School students enjoyed a Tennis Ball Tower Challenge!

Ms. Gajewski’s Middle School math students worked diligently on sorting their sweet treats and collecting data. With the data, they made tally marks for the amount of each color. Finally, they showed their data on a bar graph.

Mrs. Nowakowski and the Lower School students gave this Senior a personalized book to thank him for helping them in computer class over the years!
