McKitrick Elementary School is named after Yvonne T. McKitrick who was an educator in the Hillsborough County School System. Mckitrick was born to Italian immigrant parents in New Haven, Connecticut. She returned to Italy as a young child and began her schooling. Realizing that Mussolini was becoming powerful, her family returned to the United States. Yvonne graduated from Albertus Magnus in New H
aven
with a degree in Romance Languages. She began teaching in the Lansing, Michigan school district while pursuing her Masters Degree in Elementary
Education at Michigan State University. In 1963, Yvonne began her career with the Hillsborough County School District. McKitrick
in our school district included that of classroom teacher, media specialist, principal, Supervisor of Early Childhood Education and a School Board Member. McKitrick Elementary PTA is a noncommercial, nonsectarian, nonpartisan association that does not endorse any candidate or political party.
