My message to the Senior Class of 2020 on what would have been our live performance of Horizons. Like everything that has been an adjustment for the past 6 weeks, this is tonights tribute for your hard work and dedication to our Choral Department:

Your Senior year looks so different than others did before, and it is time that you embrace it. If there is one thing all of us have learned, it is how to embrace new situations.

Put yourselves in your own shoes as a freshman for a second. You were thrusted into a new environment, you overcame social challenges, adjusted to new classroom formats, and reimagined what the next four years might look like. I challenge you to do the same now. To my underclassmen, please know your sadness and disappointment is just as valid. Grief is something that should never be compared or qualified, and everyone in the world is facing their own unforeseen hardships due to the onslaught of this horrible virus.

Seniors, you were born when the world was grieving over 9/11, and you are graduating as the world grieves a pandemic. Although your two biggest launches into freedom, birth and graduation, have taken place in the midst of tragedies, just know that the world is an amazing, loving, beautiful place and it is waiting for you with open arms. I grieve with you that your senior year is ending this way, but I can't wait to see how you'll overcome and soar.

Graduation Info for 2020

Important Update regarding 2020 Graduation Ceremonies:

Class of 2020, the last few weeks have been challenging as you prepare for your next stage of life. Please know your teachers, administrators, and district leaders recognize this is not the way you envisioned closing out your Senior year. Student leaders and our graduation committee have proactively been working to create alternate graduation plans. The graduation dates for our traditional high schools, Exceptional Centers and Virtual School, sets July 13-July 21 for the Class of 2020 Commencement at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

For a list of the day and time for your school's alternate graduation, click here: https://bit.ly/3auxIpA.

If the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not adjust their current guidelines for the summer months and do not allow public gatherings of more than 50 people, our district will explore options to provide virtual graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020. Please know that the virtual option will be the LAST resort.

We hope this will allow you and your family to make plans. We will make adjustments as we receive more information from the state and the Department of Health.

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Governor Ron DeSantis has directed all school districts in Florida to remain closed for the remainder of the school year.

Hillsborough County Public Schools will follow the directive—this includes all traditional and charter schools. Even though we are unable to hold classes in our schools, we will continue with eLearning for the remainder of the school year, through May 29. You can find our district's eLearning Contingency Plan at HillsboroughSchools.org/coronavirus/eLearning.

We know you have many questions about your student's grades as well as activities and events planned during the fourth quarter. We will be providing you additional details in the coming days, including information regarding graduation ceremonies.

We encourage you to continue to stay connected to all district communication platforms. As always, you all can find the latest updates and relevant information on our district website at www.HillsboroughSchools.org/coronavirus.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and community members are our top priority. Please continue to follow all recommendations outlined by the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Now, more than ever, it is vital to continue to work together. We WILL come through this successfully and stronger as a school district.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility during this time.
