Hillsborough County Public Schools named our school in honor of General H Norman Schwarzkopf on May 7, 1991. The original 500 charter students selected the "Bear" as the school mascot in honor of the General, and chose the colors of garnet and silver. Preceding the mid-year opening of the school building, the school was situated on the back campus of Citrus Park Elementary from August 1992 to January 1993.
