Eye Comprehend program creators Melissa Rivas and Joan Werling have been teaching in the school system for many years. Melissa taught fourth grade at Carrollwood Day School for 11 years and Joan has been teaching for over 45 years at various schools across the country. Being that they both have been in the classroom, they know there is such a need to help students strengthen their visual skills so
they can perform at their maximum potential. Therefore, they have created a program that will do just that; by using eye strengthening exercises, students will become stronger and more confident in their reading comprehension abilities and focusing in all subject areas. Our main focus is younger children, although the program would help anyone at any age. The best time to start strengthening children's eyes are grades K-4, because as their schoolwork becomes more difficult we often see that the children's eye's can't keep up with the visual demands and their confidence could start to decrease. Some indicators that Eye Comprehend could work for your child are listed below:
*Tire quickly when reading.
*Had/Have difficulty learning to read.
*Has trouble remembering or understanding what was read.
*Lose their place or skip lines when reading.
*Read slowly or in a choppy manner.
*Say the words move around or appear double.
*Get headaches often or have fatigue while doing schoolwork. PLEASE READ: The Eye Comprehend program is NOT Vision Therapy. Vision Therapy is used for visual medical treatment prescribed by a behavioral optometrist who use different remediation procedures with lenses, prisms, and special instruments. We do not claim to be vision therapists and our program is not a substitute for severe visual problems such as amblyopia and strabismus. Our program was designed to strengthen the eye muscles needed for reading and learning while incorporating phonemic awareness, auditory processing and practice with sustained attention and focus. Melissa and Joan have a passion for helping children succeed and this passion motivated them to create Eye Comprehend. By developing this program children will enhance their visual skills to improve school performance and confidence.
