Erin Rothwell, Co-Director of Learning Support at Maryvale, traveled to Singapore as this year's Grow Grant recipient! She studied the country's nationally recognized approach to supporting students with dyslexia and learning differences.

Beyond the classrooms and conferences, she came home with a deeper understanding of community, culture, and what it means to grow as an educator.

Maryvale’s Middle School STEAM Collaboration is now on display in the Irvine Nature Center! 🌱

Specially crafted on handmade recycled paper from Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ day bingo sheets, the piece represents the bay’s marshlands while highlighting the power of sustainability, creativity, and collaboration.

Inspired by the pioneering works of Anna Atkins, a botanist and photographer widely celebrated for her groundbreaking use of the cyanotype process and for creating what is considered the first book illustrated with photographic images, students explored and documented the campus’s biodiversity throughout the 19th century cyanotype process to create a blueprint collage in the silhouette of the Chesapeake Bay.

This summer, Ruby P. ’28 took her learning beyond the classroom through four extraordinary internships, reinforcing her passion for public service and strengthening her long-term goal of pursuing a career in international relations, law, and counterterrorism.

She started her summer with Georgetown University’s National Security & Diplomacy Internship through Leadership Initiatives. Ruby worked alongside intelligence, military, diplomatic, and national security professionals to tackle real-world global security challenges impacting communities threatened by Boko Haram. Her team collaborated with university partners in Nigeria and presented strategic recommendations to representatives from the Embassy of Nigeria, with the opportunity for their proposals to receive funding and move toward implementation this fall.

Through the Mitchell Leadership Institute, Ruby participated in three more internships: Baltimore City District Court with Judge Pastore, Baltimore County Circuit Court with Judge Robinson, and Helping Up Mission (HUM) with Sky Woodward, Esq.

Through these internships, Ruby gained a well-rounded view of how policy, justice, and community intersect. It is experiences like these that empower our students to think globally, lead boldly, and make a meaningful impact on the world.
