Founded in 1994 by a group of dedicated parents, The Odyssey School is a unique, co-educational community that provides specialized instruction for children with dyslexia and other language learning differences from kindergarten through 8th grade. Our Windjammers aren’t the only ones setting sail on a new journey! As the school year came to a close, we celebrated our Sloops at the annual Raise the Sails ceremony as they prepare to step into Middle School.

Families joined us for a special assembly filled with reflections on their Lower School journey, advice from our Skipjacks, a slideshow of Sloop memories, and a sweet treat to close out the day.

Most importantly, our Sloops move forward with the skills, strategies, and confidence they need to thrive in Middle School and beyond. Congratulations, Sloops and Sloop families! Check your inbox for a link to the ceremony gallery.

Starting on MLK Day, our community set out to complete 100 Acts of Service before the end of the school year. We’ve been so encouraged by the many ways our students, families, and faculty have shown up for others.

One recent act came from a Laser student who chose to celebrate her birthday a little differently. In place of gifts, she asked friends and family to donate dog and cat treats to BARCS Animal Shelter. She was proud to deliver the donations herself, knowing she was helping care for animals in need.

A wonderful example of the Four Pillars in action! 👏💚

Cam Wright’s favorite memory will always be going to Echo Hill Outdoor School with his class. Most of all, he’ll miss his friends and teachers.

Reflecting on their Odyssey experience, Cam’s family shared, “Odyssey has helped Cam excel in spite of having dyslexia. The school has also been instrumental in his growth and becoming a well rounded young man. Thank you to all the teachers and staff.”

Congratulations, Cam! We’re so proud of you 👏

Celebrating our Windjammers, the Class of 2026 💚

When asked about his favorite Odyssey memory, Seamus shared: “The Windjammer Hershey Park trip, especially riding the Great Bear with Eddie, Mr. Cowan, and Vinny.”

What will Seamus miss most? “I’ll miss seeing my friends every day and dress down days. I’ll also miss playing sports with my Odyssey teammates.”

Seamus’ family added, “We’re grateful that Seamus was able to spend his middle school years at Odyssey. The teachers, administrators, and staff are really phenomenal. They provided the attention and support that he needed to be successful. Odyssey was the perfect place to spend middle school!”

Congratulations, Seamus! 👏

We’re proud to see Odyssey educators sharing their expertise beyond campus! Director of Outreach Kate McElderry and school counselor Jessica Eyring recently joined Baltimore County Public Library and The Ivy Bookshop to explore resilience and mindset, with a reading from Declan Someone, and a meaningful conversation on mental health and well-being.
