Dulaney ArtFest was the place to be last Thursday for all that is “art” at Dulaney. Kudos to the students of Sequel (our literary art magazine) and NAHS, in addition to so many teachers who made it all happen: Ms. Hopkins, Mr. Marsico, Ms. Chenowith, Ms. Smith, Mr. Dursa, and Mr. Lovett. Our students showed off their art in multiple media, sold their crafts, performed on stage and made available this year’s copy of Sequel. Interested in supporting the arts? Dulaney High School is extremely proud to announce our 2026 Teacher of the Year: Science teacher, Ms. Leah Lucania.

Ms. Lucania is highly regarded by students, fellow teachers and administrators as she makes science accessible and enjoyable to all students, demonstrates tremendous leadership and creativity in writing and developing curriculum and is incredibly talented at making her classroom overflow with engagement, real world applications and opportunities for students to learn how to become scientists.

A native of East Lyme, CT, Ms. Lucania came to Baltimore after graduating with a BS in Biochemistry (and competed in Cross Country and Track and Field where she was an All-American in the 800 Meter Run) from Wellesley College in 2012. After participating in the Baltimore City Teaching Residency program, Lucania put aside her plans to become a medical doctor as she fell in love with teaching. Ms. Lucania has spent fourteen total years in the classroom--in Baltimore City, Howard County, private school and Baltimore County--with the last six years at Dulaney. She has taught all sorts of life and physical sciences, coached track and field and cross country and has continued to grow in her teaching craft by earning a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction (2019), serving as a Science Curriculum Consultant for the American Association for the Advancement of Science and, recently, completing the arduous process of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher (2025). In no surprise, Lucania has been recognized with many awards for teaching, including the Gifted and Talented Teacher of the Year and Special Education Teacher of the Year while teaching in Howard County. Finally, Ms. Lucania has been married for seven years to her husband, Dave, and is mother to three-year old, Matthew.

Dulaney is incredibly grateful to have Ms. Lucania on our staff and in our classrooms. She is truly more than just a "Teacher of the Year" for Dulaney High School and we celebrate her greatly!

Tomorrow it's Dulaney Triple Crown Saturday (April 25th)! Stop by the school parking lot to donate your new and gently used clothing and shoes (to benefit the ), then pop in the cafeteria to donate blood with the Red Cross (sponsored by ) and finish by checking out the Mattress Fundraiser in the gymnasium (to support Dulaney Lions Roar Marching Band)

Our Dulaney Allied Softball team celebrated their Senior Day with a game against Milford Mill this past week. A huge “thank you” to our fans—parents, teachers, students and friends (especially dulaneybaseball and dulaneycheerleading) for making it such a festive occasion. Finally, we have heart filled gratitude for our senior athletes and buddies, many who have participated for four years.
