Root and Rise Summer Camps are only a month away!

This year we are only holding one camp/age group, so they will be full of new and old friends, and packed full of nature connections, arts and crafts, nature skills, games, and more!

We have just a few spots left in each camp, so please register soon!

•Saplings Camp: Ages 3-6 years

“I am Nature, and Nature is Me!”

This camp is a perfect blend of creative free play, storytelling, music, games, and nature arts and crafts. We will utilize the forest and garden to unleash our imaginations, engage in sensory play, and create individual, tactile art to bring home. We will learn about our connection to the forest creatures, to the plants, and to one another through imaginative play.

•Cedars Camp: Ages 6-13

This camp will combine the curriculum and themes of camps from past years for a smorgasbord of nature connection! We will learn about foraging some basic plant foods and medicines, will explore fiber arts and crafts, will venture into upcycling, pottery, music, storytelling, and will play a plethora of nature inspired games! During this camp, children will learn to more deeply understand and strengthen their connection to the environment, to one another, and to themselves.

*Root and Rise strives to make our programs accessible for ALL children. We work to ensure that affirming care, inclusion, and equity are built into curriculum and environment. Please reach out if your child has specific support needs.

*Sliding scale is available for families in need, no child will be turned away for financial reasons.

Root and Rise had to close out the year a month early because our lead teacher, Miss Myria, needed to care for her health, but oh what a great Graduation and end of the year celebration we had to say an early farewell!

It’s not your typical graduation ceremony around here! Graduating children have their very own felted crown placed upon their head as they receive their diplomas and gift backs.

We also do some face painting, eat delicious food, and have an epic bubble dance party to close it all out!

We are so grateful to all of the wonderful Root and Rise Families and will miss our sweet little ones who are moving onto Kindergarten next year!

See you all at Summer Camp! 💚

Around here, mud play is not only allowed, it’s encouraged!

Today the kids did “face painting”, nail painting, handprints, mud pies, made mud and plant medicine for doctor play, painted with mud, and more.

Mud play has numerous benefits. Besides providing tactile sensory stimulation, it also strengthens fine/gross motor skills, encourages open ended play, gives exposure to beneficial bacteria and microbes (boosting the immune system), and it allows children to experience the freedom of letting go and exploring in a world often rife with strict cleanliness expectations and rules.

Mud play gives a sense of exuberance and freedom that offers a deeper and more personal experience of the natural world. It fosters a feeling of connection and belonging that cannot be bought in stores.
