Reading fluency is how a child reads.
It includes:

New NC Statewide Mandate for NCPK & other state-funded prekindergarten programs called Finch. The Finch Literacy Screener is a game-based pre-K assessment designed and implemented by Teaching Strategies to flag early signs of dyslexia and other reading challenges children may display in the early learning development and help monitor their learning progression appropriately. It is not a diagnostic tool, but a screener to help provide individualized insight for each learner that completes the assessments.

Yes letter C sometimes makes the ‘s’ sound.

The accompanying rule is: -ce, -ci, -cy , you will produce the ‘s’ sound. Examples: dance, cylinder, circus, cereal, decide, Macy’s, and so on.

Using sounds correctly reduces reading comprehension struggles!

Stop introducing giraffe as a main g word without including….

A lesson on the different sounds that letter ‘Gg’ makes. Letter ‘Gg’ makes a hard sound “guh” and a soft sound “juh”. Giraffe is a soft g word. When children are first learning sounds, the hard g sound is primarily introduced, so to rule out confusion in their learning, be sure to connect words that produce the hard g sounds (goat, girl, game, gate, etc). Once comprehension is established, then add in the soft g sound and words.

What is Cognitive Tunnel Vision? When a specific skill becomes too dominant resulting in default usage of a particular action, tool, or response (aka the go-to strategy). Granted the technical mechanics are utilized properly, however the overall meaning is missed.
