Last call to sign up for this session of our Contemporary Play Reading Club! We had to push our first meeting back a week so you still have a few more days to sign up if you’d like to journey with us through this 6-month session…
The first play we’re reading, “Radio Golf”, is the last play in August Wilson’s legendary ten-part Century Cycle series tracing a full century of African American history through the Hill District of Pittsburgh, PA. The themes are powerful and stand alone, but also tie beautifully into the class, race, and economic themes found in two other plays we read in our last club session - “Clybourne Park” by Bruce Norris and “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage.
The rest of the plays we’re reading in this session contain some beautiful reflections on life, how culture is lost and rebuilt over time, what happens when indigenous people are left out of conversations about them, art as a vehicle for healing, relationships coming together and falling apart, family legacy, and religious identity. Join us to dive into these themes with others by reading them the way plays are meant to be experienced - out loud! Sign-ups are open on our website / with the 🔗 in our bio!
