Friday night’s Music Awards and Concert was such a fun and meaningful way for our high school musicians to wrap up the year! We shared lots of laughs, great music, and special memories as we celebrated our amazing senior musicians and everything they’ve brought to the Luck music program over the past four years.

These students have poured their hearts into every performance, every rehearsal, and every moment of growth. Their impact will be felt long after they graduate, and we are so thankful for the joy and inspiration they’ve brought to our program.

We’d like to extend a special congratulations to this year’s senior award recipients:
🎼 Anika Wicklund – National School Choral Award & John Philip Sousa Band Award
🎷 Maya Lumley – Louis Armstrong Jazz Band Award

These honors recognize not only musical excellence but also leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to our ensembles.

To all of our seniors: thank you for the music, the memories, and the legacy you leave behind. We can’t wait to see where your talents take you next. ❤️🖤

It’s not easy preparing for seven events—but Anika Wicklund rose to the challenge with dedication and skill! This talented Cardinal music senior represented our program at the State Solo & Ensemble competition at UW–Eau Claire on May 3—and she didn’t just show up, she showed out.

Anika earned the top rating of 1 on every single event she brought:
• B♭ Clarinet Solo
• E♭ Soprano Clarinet Solo
• Tenor Saxophone Solo
• Alto Voice Solo
• Music Theater Solo
• Vocal Duet
• Piano Solo

On top of that, her B♭ clarinet solo was nominated for the WSMA Exemplary Performance Award, a huge honor!

Eight of our awesome fifth grade band members attended the Beginning Band Festival on Thursday at the Shell Lake Arts Center! They had a great time making music with new friends and learning from inspiring teachers.

Today our sixth grade band had an incredible experience making music alongside young musicians from Siren, Grantsburg, Amery, and Unity! The students spent the day learning and performing under the direction of Mr. Adam Bever, Rice Lake Middle School’s band director and the 2024 recipient of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association - WMEA Award for Excellence in Teaching Music.

A highlight of the day was playing “On Wisconsin”—which also happens to be our Luck High School song! Our students played it with pride, and it was definitely their favorite piece of the day. Check out the video below to hear their performance!

A huge shoutout to our five amazing seniors—Drayken, Maya, Anika, Christian, and James—for their dedication to pep band and unwavering support of our school community! Whether it’s hyping up the crowd at Luck Cardinals Volleyball, Football, Basketball, or Blizzard Hockey, these musicians bring the energy and spirit to every game.

Sienna Atkinson, Selene Atkinson, Hayden Baillargeon, Kaylee Boettcher, Addison Burks, Sophia Brown, Noah Byl, Mireya Dietmeier, Evelyn Erickson, Emily Frendt, Cal Hanson, Teya Hinkel, Liberty James, Ruby Kaiser, Lily Lundeen, Tori Malueg, Alivia Morgan, Ainsley Olson, Corbin Perrin, and Lucy Tretsven—your hard work and dedication were on full display!

Yesterday, three of our talented high school musicians represented the Luck Cardinals at the Upper St. Croix Valley Music Association Honor Band!

Senior Anika Wicklund, sophomore Johanna Tretsven, and senior Maya Lumley spent the day at Osceola High School collaborating with students from the nine other schools in our music association. Under the expert direction of Mr. Tark Katzenmeyer from Stillwater High School, these young musicians showcased their dedication, talent, and passion for music.

We’re so proud of Anika, Maya, and Johanna for their hard work and outstanding representation of our music program. Way to go, Cardinals! 🎶❤️

Our fifth graders brought plenty of spooky spirit to band practice today, dressed up in their awesome Halloween costumes and ready to make some boo-tiful music! They’ve got their instruments, they’ve got their costumes, and they’re all set for a fang-tastic day. 🎺🦇👻

"For the 2024 High School State Honors Music Project, almost 1,500 auditions were registered for 429 positions in five ensembles. Selection identifies a student as one of Wisconsin’s finest high school musicians. The list posted

"WSMA State Honors Music Project is a nationally-recognized program of excellence for musically accomplished Wisconsin students. Students apply in November, audition in February, are selected in March, attend a summer camp in June, and perform in October during the Wisconsin State Music Conference. By providing musically accomplished youth with the opportunity to rehearse and perform with nationally-known conductors in a professional setting, students bring back their new skills to share in their school music programs."

🎺🥁 What an incredible Homecoming yesterday! 🎉🏈

The Luck Cardinals Marching Band brought the energy and spirit to the Homecoming parade and game, performing some crowd favorites and putting on an unforgettable halftime show. The support from our community was amazing, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate all Cardinals.

Our Marching Luck Cardinals had a blast representing our school and community during Sunday’s Lucky Days parade!

Thank you to Luck Cardinals Booster Club for sponsoring the purchase of additional band polos for our growing ensemble, and to the St. Croix Valley Foundation for sponsoring the purchase of our new drum line equipment and sousaphone through their music education grants the past two years.

We are so lucky to have the support of an amazing community!
