Lay Institute for Global Health Training Philippines is a supporting ministry of the SDA Church

The beginnings of the Lay Institute for Global Health Training (LIGHT) came with a desire to see more lay members around the world actively sharing the wonderful message of health and salvation. With the understanding that many will work if they are only taught how to begin, we knew the greatest need was to make short training courses available to everyone. In 2005 two experimental training programs were field-tested in a Western European and a Central Asian country to see what would result. The success of these programs encouraged us to organize LIGHT to better facilitate the global expansion of medical missionary work. Through the help of various ministry leaders in Outpost Centers International, ASI, and Wildwood Lifestyle Center, LIGHT was developed. In 2008 ASI, under the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, accepted LIGHT as an official member organization.

On October 3, 2026, LIGHT-GMMF Batch 6 was officially commissioned for service, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their mission journey.

The celebration was made even more meaningful by the presence of Madison Missions Australia and Essence of Health Australia. The gathering was filled with laughter as everyone recalled past experiences and tears of gratitude as they reflected on their shared spiritual growth.

Through a powerful message by Russell Walker on the missionary life of Paul, everyone was reminded of the faith, sacrifice, and perseverance required in God’s service.

Their training has ended, but their mission continues!

From training to commissioning. From campus to the mission field. From learning to serving.

Go forward, Batch 6! Preach, Teach, and Heal! 🙏

After months of learning, serving, praying, and being prepared for the mission, the LIGHT-GMMF Batch 6 is now ready to take the next step.

This October 3, 2026, we will witness a special moment as our Gospel Medical Missionary Farmer trainees are commissioned for service—sent not simply with knowledge, but with a burden for souls, a heart for service, and a desire to share the love of Christ through the ministry of healing.

Their classroom season may be coming to an end, but their mission is only beginning. 🌱

“Preach, Teach and Heal.”

We invite our friends, families, church brethren, and especially the churches who welcomed our trainees during their weekend deployments to join us and witness this meaningful occasion.

May these missionaries go forward by faith, trusting the One who called them and remembering that every act of service can become an opportunity to lead someone closer to Jesus.

From training to commissioning. From campus to the mission field. From learning to serving.

Go forward, Batch 6. Your field is waiting.

Those who unreservedly give themselves to this work, who faithfully reflect the beams of the Sun of Righteousness, fulfilling their mission with fidelity and love, will be recompensed on earth by the sweet consciousness of duty performed, and in the bright hereafter, when the saints shall come into their inheritance, the devoted worker for Christ will be welcomed into the joy of his Lord, hearing from the Master’s lips, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” —Gospel Workers 361.5 💡

On August 25, 2026, Sabah, Malaysia, observed a public holiday. Knowing that many people would take advantage of the holiday by spending time outdoors and exercising in public parks, we saw this as an excellent opportunity to conduct a Health Expo as part of the practicum for the first-ever batch of the Essentials of Health Evangelism Training in Sabah.

With the necessary permit secured, we were able to set up our health expo booths at the entrance of a public park, where many people passed by and gathered for their morning exercise and Zumba sessions. We began at 7:00 a.m. and concluded at 10:00 a.m., as most park visitors came early in the morning to exercise before the day became warmer.

It was a great blessing to meet and interact with people from different backgrounds. Most of those who participated came from Muslim and Roman Catholic faiths. Although they were aware that we were from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, they were open to our services and conversations. We were especially grateful that many of them allowed us to pray for them at the Counselling Booth. This provided a meaningful opportunity to minister to their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Approximately 100 people participated in the Health Expo, and about half expressed interest in follow-up activities, including prayer and counselling, health lectures, and plant-based cooking classes. This response opened encouraging opportunities for continued ministry and relationship-building in the community.

We praise God for opening this door of opportunity for the graduates of the Essentials of Health Evangelism Training to put into practice what they have learned. As some of the graduates have also begun Bible work in the area, we pray that these health ministry efforts will help prepare hearts for the Gospel. May the Lord continue to guide their work and use these efforts to lead more people to the feet of Jesus.

No fancy roads. No 5-star hotels. Just muddy trails, good people, big laughs, and a mission worth getting dirty for. 🫶🏼

Medical missionary life: part health, part ministry, part adventure… and somehow 💯% worth it 🙌🏼

The GMMF Batch 6 trainees are now serving through their Weekend Deployment, assigned to local churches where they spend their weekends serving both in the church and in the community.

Through this experience, they are learning to put their training into action—serving others, sharing the Gospel, supporting local church ministries, and reaching people in the community with the love of Christ.

🙏 Pray for our GMMF Batch 6 trainees as they continue to grow in faith, develop practical skills, and serve wherever God leads them.
