Hello! My name is Katie McCasland. I am the other half of Cobalt Academy for the 2021 school year!

My husband Brice and I live in downtown McKinney with our two kiddos, Harper and Norah. Brice is in charge of K-12 visual arts for Lovejoy ISD and teaches art at the high school.

I am so excited to be teaching this next school year. I am a certified Early childhood-8th grade classroom/reading teacher. Before having kids I taught third and first grade in Plano ISD. After I had my son I started teaching at a private pre-school and then became a full-time homeschooling momma once he was school aged. I have been homeschooling for five years now. I absolutely love learning at home and all that it offers. If I were to describe my homeschool teaching style it would be a Wild and Free momma, Charlotte Mason learning is my go to, but I find beauty in Classical and eclectic styles as well. My goal as a teacher and mother is not just to move my children through to the next grade, but instead instill in them a love of learning that can truly last a lifetime. I hope to make learning real and as natural as possible for kids so as not to make education separate from the home. In doing that I feel like my kids will always find truth and beauty in all they do. ❤️

Cobalt Academy will be an ungraded early primary school. What does that mean? We will be welcoming students who would otherwise be attending transitional kindergarten, regular kindergarten and first grade. We will have flexible grouping throughout the day to meet the individual needs of the children. With two teachers, we will be able to give each child individualized instruction at his/her level. The teacher to student ratio will be no more than 1 teacher to 8 children and both of our teachers are certified educators with many years of teaching experience!
