Established in February 2015, The Texas Tech University Graduate Student Writing Center is dedicated to developing graduate students' and postdoctoral fellows' writing and research skills. The Writing Center brings together scholars with disparate backgrounds, interests, and talents in order to foster the effective communication skills and spirit of intellectual inquiry that are central to graduate study.
Workshops: Workshops are interactive discussions about common writing concerns and genres. Offerings vary each semester; past topics include writing for academic audiences and developing productive writing practices. Distance students may participate via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.
Graduate Student Writing Groups: Graduate Student Writing Groups provide structure and support for students writing theses, dissertations, or other long projects. Each week, these groups meet for three hours for goal setting and independent writing time. Graduate students must apply for membership at the beginning of each semester. For an application, email the Graduate Student Writing Center
Thesis & Dissertation Boot Camps: Thesis & Dissertation Boot Camps are intended to help students progress through the thesis or dissertation process by providing writing support, a quiet environment, structured time, and a sense of community. Participants will develop more effective writing practices and will learn about topics such as goal setting, authorship, publishing, and presenting research. This four-day event is held each semester; it is co-sponsored by the Graduate School. To register for an upcoming Boot Camp, email the Graduate Student Writing Center
