Repost “Recuerdos desde la ciudad que tiene mi corazón entero”

Another soon to be Texas Tech graduate Chloe Suckling decided to go study abroad, and now she tells everyone that you have to do while in college. A speech language and hearing science major at Texas Tech she wanted to go study abroad before leaving college. She got to study abroad in the Czech Republic last spring. She got to go on many adventures like Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Berlin, and Viena. But her favorite place to visit was Progue, and old town nearby. She felt like it was a very touristy area
4 / 5
where she could really explore the town. While visiting all these countries she decided to go on a few solo adventuress. Chloe at first was a little scared to do it by herself but those adventures were her favorite. She only had to worry about her schedule and her time frame. She got to do what she wanted to do. From doing a canal tour in Denmark, to going to Mulina, Italy. It was the best college experience she could ever ask for she exclaimed.

Every major can go study abroad and get such an amazing experience out of it. Take it from a soon to be graduate from Texas Tech Cole McElwee. He is a natural resource management major, and he spent this past summer studying in South Africa. He spent part of his summer living on a reserve, the Blau reserve, working with different people. He had a few culture shocks while traveling such as realizing that the water quantity is very different in South Africa. On the reserve they have a water tank, and that is all the water they have before they must get more. With that aside he still loved his experience while on the reserve where he got to meet a ton of different people from all different countries like Germany, Italy, and Belgium. During his program his group got to make a adventure out to Drakensberg, which is a mountain where you can see everything. It was a different scene than the reserve and a very special picture he has that he will remember forever. Cole decided to study abroad because he always hears it would be a good experience, so he went for it.

What’s holding you back from saying yes to study abroad? Is it being scared to travel, not wanting to leave friends, finances? Maybe you are graduating school soon? There is always a reason not to go but always a reason to say yes. Take it from a Texas Tech graduate Alex Lake. He stayed an extra semester so he could study abroad, because he knew it would be an experience that he wanted to have before leaving college. Leaving for Sevilla Spain in 2012, Alex new going into the program this was going to be a once in a lifetime experience. When choosing programs he decided on Sevilla Spain since he wanted to speak more Spanish, and this would be a good step in communicating with people who would make him a better communicator. While in Sevilla he realized how much of home it felt like to him since he is from San Antonio. One of his favorite memories while studying abroad would be going to Barcelona and seeing this huge cathedral called Sagrada Familia Roman Catholic church. It was under construction at the time but their were cranes that would project light shows. Another precious memory he has when looking back on studying abroad was getting to spend time with his host mom. He spent most of his time in Sevilla which helped him spend more time with her by going to the market with her, watching prime time tv, she event helped him with his homework. In his masters program here at Tech he is hoping to make it back one day to visit Sevilla. Alex’s biggest advice is to not just hang out with Tech people while on the program. Really emerge yourself into the culture, and try to have roots in Sevilla so you can have a more meaningful program.
