For many prospective students, Terri Lloyd is one of the first people they meet at GSBS. As Director of Admissions, she helps future students navigate the admissions process, answers questions and welcomes them as they begin their graduate school journey.

From recruiting at conferences to coordinating interview weekends, Terri is passionate about helping students find the program that's the right fit for them.

🔬 Meet the GSBS Team: Pam Johnson, MBA

With more than three decades at TTUHSC, Pam Johnson has seen GSBS grow, evolve and thrive. As Assistant Dean and Managing Director, she provides the leadership and operational expertise that help keep our graduate school running smoothly every day.

Whether she's supporting students, assisting faculty, or overseeing day-to-day operations, Pam's experience and dedication make her an invaluable part of the GSBS team.

⭐ Fun Fact: Pam is a foster mom for dogs! Four of the dogs she fostered from October 2025 - February 2026 were transported via Project Freedom Ride to Rhode Island for adoption!

Michael Blanton, Ph.D., Senior Associate Dean for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, was honored for his 30 years of service to TTUHSC on Friday, August 7 during the Years of Service Recognition Ceremony!

Dr. Blanton joined TTUHSC in 1995 after completing his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, where he also served for one year as an instructor. Throughout his three decades of service, he has made a lasting impact through his commitment to teaching, mentorship, research and service to our students.

His contributions have been recognized across the university, including being named Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 2011 and receiving the University Distinguished Professor Award in 2017.

Since 2010, Dr. Blanton has served as the Director of the M.D./Ph.D. Program, helping guide and mentor generations of physician-scientists. He has recently began serving as a faculty mentor for our new Pathway to Ph.D. program, continuing his long-standing commitment to supporting the next generation of biomedical scientists.

Congratulations, Dr. Blanton, on 30 incredible years, and thank you for all you have done and continue to do, for our students, our school and TTUHSC! ❤️🖤

Scientific papers can seem intimidating, but they don't have to be!

Yesterday, SABR interns heard from Abigail Torres of the Ponomarev lab as she presented "How to Read a Scientific Paper: Perspectives From a Graduate Student." Abigail shared practical strategies for breaking down complex research articles, identifying key findings and approaching the scientific literature with confidence.

Behind every successful graduate program is a commitment to discovery. As Vice Dean of GSBS and Director of the Burn Center of Research Excellence, Dr. Rumbaugh combines leadership with groundbreaking research that impacts lives.

Her work helps strengthen the research opportunities available to our students while advancing biomedical science.

This week we're highlighting Dr. Marcos Matamoros, faculty in the Molecular Biophysics program at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Matamoros' research focuses on understanding the structure and function of membrane proteins and ion channels using advanced biophysical and imaging techniques. His work provides insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying diseases including cardiac, neurological, developmental and metabolic disorders.
