Southcerst FFA members spent yesterday serving Lubbock 3P at the David J Holt Educational Facility. Lubbock 3P is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting youth leadership through safe, hands-on educational experiences in shooting sports.

Our students were able to utilize the skills they've learned in their Principles of AFNR - Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources - classes to assist in the current renovation of the facility.

Thank you Sgt. Major Ronnie Miller, Lubbock 3P Board Member and instructor, for having our group at your facility. He graciously shared his testimony and encouraged our students to continue serving the Lord through their work.

"The Structure of Intellect (SOI) is a theory of human intelligence that focuses on the abilities required for acquiring, assimilating, and processing information—the very foundation of learning." -SOI Systems

Our SOI program allows us to assess and measure several key intellectual abilities among our students including cognition, memory recording and retention, among other skills. We then develop and use appropriate training materials to build upon abilities that require additional fostering as well as further enhance strong ones. SCS is the only local private school to offer such a program. It is facilitated by skilled experienced faculty: Katlyn Pedroza and Brand Carter.

For more info about this program and SCS, please call us at 806-416-7800.

SCS Art Education is significant because not only does it allow a student to grow in his or her God-given talents, but art further develops:
1. Problem-solving skills through critical thinking resulting in innovative solutions,
2. Improves visual-spatial abilities and intelligence helping with math and science,
3. Emotional well-being; art reduces stress, improves memory, and promotes overall well-being.

Today we are celebrating and bringing awareness to World Down Syndrome Day by wearing crazy socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Brightly colored or mismatched socks actually resemble these chromosomes!

Thank you SCS parent and Down Syndrome advocate Jena Kemp for sharing and educating students and staff about Down Syndrome in chapel this week as well.
