A few weeks ago, one of our undergraduate classes had the privilege of listening to Dr. Gordon W. Davis, the namesake of the Texas Tech Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources, speak on the importance of the Pursuit of Excellence.

A few key points he made were about constantly being in the pursuit of excellence and always continuing to get better, no matter where you are in life.

Thank you, Dr. Davis, for continuing to inspire our students and being a great leader in the Lubbock community!

Vincent Miozzi recently defended his dissertation in Agricultural and Applied Economics. He has been a Research Assistant at the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech University, where he also earned his master’s degree. His dissertation topic is “Three Essays on Applied Economic Freedom” under the supervision of Benjamin Powell and Adam Martin. Vincent and will be joining Florida Southern College as an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise this Fall. He will be a research fellow at the Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

Vincent attained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he was also president of the political economy club and a member of the Catholic Society and the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Vincent is originally from Solon, Ohio—just outside of Cleveland.

Vincent’s love for the economic way of thinking inspired his passion for teaching. He has taught in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics and Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University, the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala, and in the Department of Economics, Business, and Accounting for his alma mater Hillsdale College.

Vincent’s research interests center around institutional economics, political economy, and public choice with a pronounced focus on economic freedom using the Economic Freedom of the World and Economic Freedom of North America indexes published annually by the Fraser Institute. Vincent has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Institutional Economics, the American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Public Choice, the Southern Economic Journal, and the Journal of Private Enterprise.

Vincent has presented his research at several conferences including the Association of Private Enterprise and Southern Economic Association annual meetings, and he was also invited to present his current research on accession to the European Union at the Mont Pelerin Society’s regional meeting this past fall.

Congratulations Vincent!!

It's Groundhogs Day, Lubbock style! We have our own weather predictors - the Black-tailed Prairie Dogs of the South Plains! Some see them as cute soil engineers, others find them as a challenge to farming and ranching. Prairie Dog Town in Lubbock provides an area for these little critters to roam!
