I hope to make this year as fun, successful, and beneficial for all of you as I can. I was thankfully gifted with a wonderfully capable board and we're excited to see you all! Let’s welcome our Vice President Alexis Mejia and her partner in crime, Charlie!
Alexis Mejia, HLSA’s 2021-2022 Vice President. She is a 3L from El Paso, Texas. Alexis is an editor for the Estate Planning and Community Property Law Journal, as well as the Chair for the Student Wellness Advisory Committee. Alexis is part of the Civil Practice Clinic where she represents individuals from the Lubbock community. She is passionate about employment law issues and hopes to practice in that area of law after graduation.
Alexis’ pride and joy is Carlos Arturo Ortiz A.K.A. Charlie! He is a 3 year old beagle with a large personality and a constant need for attention and treats. Although Charlie is trained certified by the American Kennel Club, he only really reacts to the word “chancla”.

Let’s welcome our Pro Bono Chair, Paloma Flores!
“I am Paloma Flores. I spent the past year as a virtual student in the TTU Zoom School of Law, so I have met you all through the computer screen or not yet at all. If we met online, then you have probably also met my dog, Marilla. Feel free to come say hello to me or her anytime! I am from the lower Rio Grande Valley Area, specifically Harlingen, TX, and I look forward to coming to know West Texas better. My ultimate goal as a Board Member is to build a community that actively supports one another’s success. I serve as the Pro Bono chair and am happy to account for any specialty interests our members may have in selecting our events. I am personally interested in Health Law, Public Policy, and Administrative Law. By helping coordinating events like to volunteer my hope is that we will come together to learn as much from each other as we do from our professors. I value everyone’s voice and will be open to any and all suggestions, especially those directly serve our community and allow us to engage others at the law school. We are better together, and I look forward to connecting my strengths to yours.”
