We are proud of our English graduates!

Shelby Easterwood, who has just earned her BA, attributes her success to professors and advisors who supported her journey.

"As a first gen college student, the English program here at TTU has been my home. I spent many, MANY hours in the atrium drinking coffee and studying or reading. I loved my professors, how they supported my journey and fostered my education. Thank you to Dr. Marta Kwande and Diane Johnson for pushing me to greater heights, I truly could not have done it without you and your ongoing support. Thank you for the years of encouragement and I'll see you soon for grad school, you can count on that!"

This week, the TTU Office of the Provost honored faculty across the university — and the Department of English had plenty to celebrate. At the heart of every recognition is something we hold dear: an unwavering commitment to teaching.

First, our department received the Teaching Academy Departmental Excellence in Teaching Award, one of TTU's most distinguished department-level honors, recognizing a true teaching culture and carrying a $25,000 prize. This award belongs to every faculty member, student, and colleague who makes our department a place where teaching is more than a duty.

Next, congratulations to Dr. Allison Whitney, recipient of the Chancellor's Council Distinguished Teaching Award, and to Dr. Brian McFadden, recipient of the President's Excellence in Teaching Award. These awards honor faculty who have achieved distinction both within and beyond the university for outstanding teaching.

And because great teaching is inseparable from great scholarship, we congratulate Dr. Lisa Phillips and Dr. Yuan Shu, both recipients of the Gloria Lyerla Memorial Library Research Travel Grant, a competitive award supporting TTU researchers in accessing collections worldwide. Their scholarly journeys will enrich the knowledge and perspectives they bring back to our students and our field.

We are so proud of this community.
