LCMS educators had a great time learning and presenting at Confluence 2024! We can’t wait until next year!

LCISD has been notified that TxDOT plans to close off Loop 493 to thru traffic at some point this week. We do not know confirmed dates, but wanted to share this information with you. Please prepare for the possibility of this closure as you travel to/from Woodrow-area campuses.

05/16/2024

TxDOT has reopened Loop 493, as they are unable to complete their planned culvert replacement project at this time. We do not yet know the new start date for this project, but will communicate this date with stakeholders if it falls before the end of the 2023-24 school year.

05/15/2024

UPDATE: TxDOT has already closed Loop 493 to thru traffic (instead of at 5:00 p.m. today, as originally planned). Please be prepared for Loop 493 between the north LCHS parking lot entry and Woodrow Road to be shut down during today's dismissal. Read more below:

Barricades will be set up just south of the LCHS north parking lot entrance, meaning that the LCHS north parking lot will still be accessible from Highway 87, but drivers exiting the north parking lot cannot go southbound on Loop 493 (instead, they will be forced to turn north and return to Highway 87).

Barricades will also be set up on Loop 493 where it intersects Woodrow Road (at the four-way traffic signal). Drivers on Woodrow Road wishing to turn north onto Loop 493 will be unable to do so.

Please plan accordingly as you travel to and from Woodrow-area campuses.

We do not know the timeline for this project, but will notify drivers once Loop 493 is reopened to thru traffic. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Covenant Health System provided a Lunch and Learn opportunity to LCMS and LBMS 8th graders. Students worked with healthcare professionals to learn about heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and temperature. The program encourages students interested in the healthcare field to begin coursework in high school within the Health Science program, which can help them earn a national credential and begin working in the hospital! We also thank LEDA for providing box lunches for our students and Covenant partners!

Three of our outstanding LCMS Pirates competed in the South Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SPRSEF) on Thursday, Feb. 22. The event, hosted at Texas Tech University, brought together young scientists in grades 4-12 from across the region to present their research and compete for recognition.

Vishwatej Tallam competed in the 8th grade Physical Science Division and received the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Environmental Excellence Award. The TCEQ Environmental Excellence Award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation in their research projects. He also received a letter of commendation from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Ambree Howe competed in the 8th grade Biological Division and received the Caprock Home Health Award which included a $50 cash prize and the Junior Division Naval Science Award from the Office of Naval Research. This award highlights Ambree's commitment to scientific inquiry and exploration.

Josie Butts competed in the 8th grade Biological Division and received 3rd place overall in her division! She also received a letter of commendation from the US Environmental Protection Agency. By placing in the top three in her division, she advances to the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair held at Texas A&M University in College Station in March!

In addition to student awards, science teacher Chelsea Bullock received one of the SPRSEF Sweeps Awards for 8th grade! We are so proud of each of these students’ outstanding scientific achievements. Way to go, Pirates!
