Big news for Texas Tech's fashion family!

The Texas Tech University Apparel Design & Manufacturing program has found a new home in the Department of Hospitality and Retail, and faculty on both sides say it's less a merger and more a long-overdue reunion.

The move opens the door to bigger research projects, expanded internships, and a more industry-ready degree for students.

Interior design student Natalie Roman took on a challenge most would shy away from: creating a luxe boutique hotel inspired by the elegance of Reims, France. Drawing inspiration from a harp's intricate curves, she wove Gothic and Art Deco influences through marble, rich woods, and aluminum finishes—all while mastering the technical realities of space planning, ADA compliance, and building codes.

"I was drawn to France because I wanted to challenge myself with designing a space that felt ornate yet timeless," Roman said.

From Plovdiv to Lubbock: Fulbright scholar Georgi Toskov spent the spring semester at Texas Tech studying how wine labels tell stories of heritage and tradition — and learning how to turn university research into real products people can buy.

Toskov, an associate professor at the University of Food Technologies in Bulgaria, worked with the Texas Wine Marketing Research Institute's Natalia Velikova, continuing a research partnership that began when she was a Fulbright U.S. Scholar at his home institution.

While here, he also studied Texas Tech's entrepreneurial ecosystem, including Red Raider Meats and the Innovation Hub, to help commercialize his university's own food and beverage products back home.

A piece of Texas Tech history received the recognition it deserves!

The Human Sciences Cottage—the fourth building ever constructed on our campus—was honored with a Texas Historical Marker last Thursday during a special dedication ceremony. Built in 1928 as the Home Management House, the Cottage gave generations of College of Home Economics students hands-on experience in cooking, cleaning, gardening, and even childcare through its iconic "practice baby" program.

Nearly 100 years later, it continues to be a place of warmth and purpose, now home to the Center for Adolescent Resiliency and a beloved gathering spot for alumni and guests.

"Historic spaces like the Human Sciences Cottage connect us to the generations of students and faculty whose work helped shape the future of families and communities across Texas and beyond," said TTU President Lawrence Schovanec.

We're proud of this milestone and everyone who has helped preserve this special place.
