¡Hola amigos y amigas de Céfiro! Por favor inviten a sus estudiantes a registrarse en las próximas clases que se estarán impartiendo en CMLL durante el Otoño.
Aquí una breve descripción de algunas de ellas. ¡Saludos! - LAIS 5300, the core seminar, designed as an introduction to Latin American Studies
- PORT 5307, a graduate seminar with a regional focus on Brazil. PORT 5307 will focus on issues of Portuguese colonialism and empire, specific to Brazil. We will focus on Slavery and plantation society, reading such classics as Gilberto Freyre (The Masters and the Slaves; The Mansions and the Shanties), Joao Reis (Slave Rebellion in Brazil: The 1835 Male Revolt), and Jacob Gorender (Colonial Slavery), all in English translation.
- Both classes will be taught in English and all required readings will be in English.
- Both classes can be cross-listed.

1. Who can take these courses?
-Students who have previous experience with the Spanish language (i.e., whether they learned it in a natural environment, studied abroad, or grew up/lived in a Spanish-speaking country).

2. What are the goals of this program?
-Foster and encourage our students' development in the diverse variations of “Spanishes” used in the Spanish-speaking world.
-Meet our students' specific needs, those being:
- literacy development (reading and writing)
-use of “translanguaging,” the act performed by bilinguals of accessing different autonomous languages (e.g., Spanish in the U.S. and English) to maximize communication among our communities in Texas
-discovery of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom
