YWCA of Lubbock is partnering with Echo West Texas, Reclaimed 1:43 and other local agencies to conduct a point in time count of youth/young adults ages 12-24 who are without a safe and stable place to sleep. There will be a brief survey (seven questions) followed by a pool party. Please spread the word.

A Westerner YEE-HAW for our new Algebra 1 teacher, Holly Garcia!

A note from Holly...

Hello, Westerners!

My name is Holly Gacia, and I am so excited to join Lubbock High School as an Algebra 1 teacher.

I am originally from Houston, Texas, and I spent my first 10 years of teaching in Arizona. After moving to Lubbock, I taught at Bowie, where my two youngest daughters also attended school. I have also had the opportunity to teach in Brownfield and Morton.

My husband is also an educator and has coached at both the middle school and high school levels. Together, we have three amazing daughters and five grandchildren. We are a proud sports and military family, and my husband is a Desert Storm veteran. We are also very active in our church, including the church band, where our oldest daughter serves as the Music Minister.

Throughout my career, I have taught kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, as well as 6th grade math and high school math. I am excited to bring my experience and passion for students to Lubbock High.

Hello, Westerners!

My name is Jennifer Withrow, and I am excited to join Lubbock High School as the new Testing Coordinator.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University and my master’s degree from Lamar University. My husband and I have four children. Our oldest is married and currently supporting her husband abroad as he serves in the United States Air Force. Our other three children are excited to be part of LISD!

I look forward to meeting our students, staff, and families while supporting the great work already happening at Lubbock High. We are thrilled to call Lubbock home and begin this new chapter together.

🌸 Lubbock High School PTSA is in full bloom! 🌸

We didn't just maintain what we built this year, we grew it! 🌱 Thanks to your incredible support, we hit 101%+ of last year’s membership. That kind of growth takes true heart, hustle, and leaders who believe in the power of our community.

Our "May Blossoms" milestone is officially here, and this Westerner family earned every single petal. Thank you for pouring into our school and finishing the year stronger than we started. We are so incredibly proud of you! 🖤💛

Sending out a big Westerner welcome to Coach Sam Torres as he joins the Lubbock High Coaching team!

A note from Coach Torres...
--

My name is Sam Torres, and I am excited to join Lubbock High as a 9th grade English teacher and assistant girls basketball coach.

I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tarleton State University and am entering my 11th year in education. Most recently, I spent nine years in Bronte, Texas, where I served as the head girls basketball coach and taught English.

Whether in the classroom or on the court, I believe growth happens when high expectations are paired with genuine support and strong relationships.

I am beyond excited to be joining LHS and the Lady Westerner Basketball Team!
