“Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!” Reading different stories about the gingerbread man and focusing on different vocabulary and literacy related topics makes this such a fun theme for preschoolers! Plus incorporating Gingerbread men into our play just adds to the fun!

“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.” -Deuteronomy 32:2

Getting dirty and learning through play is what we’re all about at Westminster Presbyterian Preschool! We would love to visit with you about our program, give us a call today! (806)799- 4588
Our local fire station came out to teach the kiddos about fire safety. We watched Mr. Tucker dress into his fire fighter gear, which we learned helps keep him safe. They told us he may look and sound different with his uniform and oxygen mask on, but Tucker is still Tucker. If we ever see a firefighter in our home or school the children learned never to run away, but to give them a hug so they can take them to safety!
Wiggling and expanding worms! Super fun summer activity to try at home, all you need is Kleenex, a pencil, and water. Cut a sheet of Kleenex in half, roll it around a pencil and push it into a bunch then carfully remove from the pencil. Let children add water by using pipets, straws, or a spoon and see what happens!
Tapping into our inner scientist to explore chemical reactions with baking soda, vinegar, glitter, and food coloring. Children were able to experiment with the colors and quantities of the different materials and observe their results. These hands on learning experiences are so fun and so important for development and learning. God gave us great minds to explore the world around us!
Wishing all moms a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day this weekend. Your endless efforts and love for your children helps to shape who they become in amazing ways!
Our school has been teaching the Easter story this week. The children have learned the greatness and magnitude of Christ’s love for us as shown in our Bible stories, chapel lessons, and the resurrection egg activity we did in class. All of which provide stories and visuals to explain the story of Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection. No love or sacrifice is greater than that of God’s. We at Westminster Presbyterian Preschool wish you all a blessed weekend🐣
Exploring the arts! Introducing children to different artists, methods, and mediums and allowing the kiddos to create their own masterpieces helps foster their imagination and independent ideas. The PreK learned about Wassily Kandinsky and his ideas about how color can impact our emotions. The children then chose their own colors to paint in layers and create with. We then discussed the colors they chose and how those colors made them feel. Super fun project for school or home!
The children have been learning about plant and bug life cycles the last few weeks, as well as natural phenomena that occurs in spring!
🦖dinosaur week is always a favorite! We’ve been learning the different vocabulary associated with dinosaurs such as fossil, paleontologist, herbivore, carnivore, and extinct. Using dinosaurs as a tool for learning other skills such as measuring and fine motor grips is a great way to make school (and home) experiences more fun!
Celebrating Dr. Seuss this week! The children have learned about rhyming words, parts of a book, and the job of an author and illustrator. We have also been learning to identify the underlying themes of some of Dr. Seuss’s popular stories! In addition to this children are able to learn through play and work on age appropriate skills. 📚🖍
Teaching dental health in the PreK class!
Open enrollment for our 2022 summer care and the 2022-2023 school year has begun!
Learning about the world around us helps teach acceptance and understanding of others and their culture and beliefs. In PreK we’ve been researching languages and the places people live in different countries, as well as learning more about how God made ALL of us different and beautiful!
Getting little hands ready for writing is so important and takes time and practice. Incorporating play-doh and using dry erase markers helps to make the skill more fun to learn! 📒🖍
Graham cracker gingerbread houses for the win! I love watching each child create their own version of the perfect gingerbread house. Easy activity to try at home too!
Nothing says we’re getting ready for Thanksgiving like pine cone turkeys!
Eric Carle week! Creating a Very Hungry Caterpillar sensory tub to expand on the kiddos learning and incorporate math and fine motor skills.
Farming week in the PreK class! Teaching healthy food choices and experimenting with real foods. Shucking corn and observing the insides of an apple, these are some fun ways to extend children’s learning and incorporate science exploration!
We love using real items to incorporate into the children’s play here at Westminster Presbyterian Preschool. Allowing children to explore and experiment using everyday real objects such as pumpkins, gords, hay, corn, and scientific tools like goggles and pipets. These different objects helps to enhance children’s play and learning experiences, while also exposing them to new and exciting things and ideas!
Providing mirrors and markers for drawing self portraits during our all about me week! We always love seeing what children create during open ended art projects 🤩
Teaching children to understand their feelings is so important at a young age, an activity our PreK class did to help teach this was make paper plate emotion faces! So easy to make and a fun way to act out and initiate conversation about our many feelings and expressions. We added tongs for working on fine motor development, but glueing a pop sickle stick to the back works great too!
Teaching kindness! 😊
Firework art! We love celebrating our country in fun and crafty ways. Using recyclable materials such as toilet paper rolls for painting provides an out-of-the-box artistic experience that is also easier for children to hold and use. But adding stickers provides a challenge of using fine motor skills to help develop young children’s hands for writing!
Here’s a shout out to all of you fabulous mothers, we are wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday! If you’re looking for a church family Westminster Presbyterian Church would love for you to join us on Sunday for our Mother’s Day service!
It’s Easter and spring time! Such a colorful and fun time of year. We love getting to teach our students about the Easter story and God’s ever-present and sacrificing love He has for each one of us!
Westminster Presbyterian Preschool loves giving back to our community, this month we took donations for our neighborhood fire station! We have such generous and amazing families😊
Spring is here and Eric Carle’s, The Tiny Seed, is a perfect book to read this time of year. Here is the PreK class flower diagram the children helped label today after learning about the life cycle of a plant!

The kids call me “Ms. Ka-Fo-leen” but you can call me Kathleen! I have been a teacher at Westminster Preschool going on eight years, I began working as a teaching assistant before also becoming the art teacher as I worked my way through college. After graduating from Texas Tech University in 2017, I became a lead teacher and I am currently the proud lead teacher of the Whales Pre-Kindergarten class. Teaching is a passion I never knew I had until I gave it a try and now it’s hard to imagine doing anything else. Getting to instill a love of learning and bringing new ideas and experiences into a child’s world is what makes every day exciting!
Hello, I’m Ms.Maria! I have been a member of Westminster Preschool for over three years; I started as a teaching assistant and after graduating with my associates degree in Early Childhood Education I became a lead teacher. I am one of the Pre-K teachers in the Dino class and absolutely enjoy being able to spend each day loving each child and pouring into them! I am currently attending Wayland Baptist University at the Lubbock campus and will be graduating in March with my bachelors in Early Childhood. I enjoy being apart of your littles ones lives and seeing everything that they accomplish!
