The Wine Society of Texas Announces 2024 Scholarship Program

The Wine Society of Texas (WST) will provide up to $10,000 in scholarships to worthy students or individuals pursuing wine and winery education, internship, field study, research work, grape growing, wine making and marketing in the state of Texas. DEADLINE: April 25, 2024.

To apply for the grant, individuals must be:
• attending institutions in the State of Texas studying viticulture and enology, or
• pursuing winery internships in Texas, or
• involved with Texas winemaking or field studies / wine education, or
• involved in promoting the education of grape growing and winemaking in the State of Texas.

Scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the applications. Our scholarship program is consistent with the founding idea of WST and its continuing mission to help promote Texas winemakers and grape growers, enhance the appreciation of wines, foster the knowledge of oenology and viticulture, and support charitable activities.

The WST will be accepting applications up to April 25, 2024. All applications must be returned by this date, fully completed and with all necessary documents, to The Wine Society of Texas. Applicants are required to fill out the WST Scholarship Application, which will be reviewed by the WST Scholarship Committee. The committee may recommend a single or multiple awards depending on the quality of applications received. All decisions will be final and applying does not guarantee receiving a grant. The WST scholarship award(s) will be announced on or about May 15, 2024

RAIDERS UNCORKED, a club at Texas Tech, allows its members to have a unique experience learning about viticulture and enology... “We noticed that there was literally a club for everything else on campus,” Schubert said. “We really thought it would be beneficial for all students to have access to this club.”

“The club is open to anybody that is wanting to learn more about wine, just enjoys wine or just wants to join a fun club,” Zientek said.

We’re pleased to announce that a new scholarship opportunity through the ROBERT D. MERENDINO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP GRANT is now available to our Wine Business Certificate students, Winemaking Certificate students, our undergrad students, and WSET Level 2+ students.

Awards totaling up to a maximum of $12,500 are made quarterly on the 15th day of January, April, July, and September to help defray the costs of eligible educational, experiential, or professional certification programs to deserving candidates. Financial need is not a requirement, but preference will be given to any applicant who chooses to make such a showing. Scholarship decisions are made in the complete discretion of the Foundation and no cause will be shown either in the case of an award or a denial thereof.

Eligibility Requirements: Under the Program, residents of the United States who have been actively employed in an occupation related to production, distribution or service of craft alcoholic beverages for three or more years are eligible to apply. An applicant must show how the subject program will likely lead to promotion or other career advancement, and not just accumulation of certifications or degrees for their own sake.

The Texas Hill Country Wine Industry Scholarship application is now available on their new website: https://texashillcountrywineries.org/pages/thcw-scholarships .

The Texas Hill Country Wine Industry Scholarships is a program sponsored by Texas Hill Country Wineries, a non-profit trade association. The scholarship committee will award academic scholarships to Texas residents enrolled in a school, college, or certificate program related to the wine industry. The award of scholarship funds requires enrollment confirmation in an approved program from the school, university, institution or organization and are awarded to graduating high school seniors and/or currently enrolled students.

Please pass on the information to anyone who may be eligible and interested in applying. We very much look forward to reviewing the applications and awarding scholarships at the Texas Hill Country Wine Symposium in February next year.
