From Bulgaria to Lubbock, one wine glass at a time.

We welcomed Fulbright Scholar Georgi Toskov, PhD, for research on how wine labels tell cultural stories and to explore how Texas Tech turns research into real-world impact.

His takeaway on the biggest barrier to commercialization back home? Mindset. A reminder that the most valuable exchange is perspective.

Celebrating Sauvignon Blanc Day — Texas style 🍷

This International Sauvignon Blanc Day, it’s worth recognizing how Texas producers, particularly in the High Plains and Dell Valley, are earning serious credibility in major competitions:

🏅 Reddy Vineyards — Gold (TEXSOM)
🏅 Adega Vinho — Platinum (TEXSOM)
🏅 La Valentía (Wine for the People) — Gold + Class Champion - Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo “Vine 2 Wine” International Wine Competition
🏅 Becker Vineyards — Silver (San Francisco International)
🏅 Spicewood Vineyards — Silver (SF Chronicle)

And it’s not just Sauvignon Blanc, producers like Duchman, Pedernales, and Bending Branch are pulling Double Gold and Best-of-Class for other varietals at major international competitions.

What sets Texas Sauvignon Blanc apart?
• High-elevation vineyards (3,000+ ft)
• Limestone + caliche soils
• Bright acidity with a distinct mineral edge

Try it with:
🦐 seafood | 🧀 goat cheese | 🌮 fish tacos | 🥗 fresh salads | 🍗 grilled chicken

If you haven’t explored Texas Sauvignon Blanc yet, today is a great excuse to start.

Reposting this from the Texas Wine Growers Association (TWGGA):

Texas restaurants, you’re a key part of the future of Texas wine.

By featuring multiple Texas wines (by the glass and bottle), highlighting them on your menu, and equipping your staff with simple, approachable knowledge about Texas regions and pairings, you can make a lasting impact.

Consider building relationships with local wineries through winemaker dinners, seasonal features, and by-the-glass programs.
