For International Women's Day we wanted to introduce you to some of the women who are part of the amazing team behind Science On a Sphere. From left to right, Beth is the operations manager for SOS, Hilary is the education specialist, and Shilpi is the lead software engineer. SOS wouldn't be what it is today without these awesome ladies!

The West Texas Mesonet (WTM) had the adventure of a lifetime as we trekked from Lubbock along the Devils River and into Comstock, TX to deploy a new weather station with our gracious partner Houston Dobbins & family at the Zuberbueler Ranch in Val Verde County.

The Dobbins raise Hair sheep and Spanish meat goats, producing some very fine and high-quality fleeces on the outskirts of the Chihuahua Desert ecoregion. The ranch hosts incredible views with vast limestone walls and rolling scrubland that lined the 35 minute drive from Comstock on this historic ranch to our mesonet site.

After a long day in the field, Houston gave us a tour of Zuberbueler Bend which overlooks the Amistad Reservoir. We were privy to observing amazing wildlife: deer, jack rabbits, fox, frogs, sheep, goats, birds, and even small fish. Native tribes inhabited primitive dwellings constructed in the steep walls of canyons which provided art through pictographs of their lives on the stone walls near Seminole Canyon and the Rio Grande.

Topped it off with a beautiful stay at the Comstock Motel and the best club sandwich I’ve ever had at The J and P Bar and GrillThe J and P Bar and Grill.

Absolutely breathtaking trip to West Texas.🌵
