There are policies in place that help support children and families who are immigrating to the Sates specifically for work. There are many families who come to the Central Wisconsin area to find employment in agriculture. The children have the right to attend school and are protected from deportation due to these policies. While immigration remains a topic of debate, it is important to recognize the economic roles these families play, and they often take jobs in agricultural that local residents are unwilling to pursue.

I would like to share the Elmhorst and Lazaro's story. Kelli and Mark are dear friends of mine and local farm owners. I have always been inspired by their story and one of the reasons I picked this topic. The Elmhorst family have been a great example of embracing Latinos. They have helped link their employee, Lazaro, with community resources, help integrate him and his family into the community/ school system, provide him with housing and help with the language barrier. My posts will have more of an educational focus as I am a school social worker and I work with Latino students and their families as they get integrated into the school system after moving here to work on the local farms.
