There’s something fishy going on in Loxley...meet our newest team members at Flowerwood — grass carp! 🐠💦🥽

These vegetarian fish play an important role in keeping our irrigation ponds healthy by eating aquatic weeds that could clog our plumbing.

Big thanks to our Biological Control Coordinator, Sierra Henry, for helping us keep our water systems thriving naturally! 😌

During this year’s Green Careers Week, we were proud to host the Green Industry Equipment Rodeo alongside , , and ! 🌱

Over 100 students from across Mobile, Baldwin, and Covington counties explored the exciting world of horticulture, from plant health and beneficial insects to drones, IT, and heavy equipment 🚜🐛🔍

We loved giving these future green industry leaders a hands-on look at the technology, tools, and teamwork that keep horticulture growing strong! 💪

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Edward Clay Lawhon (October 11, 1957 – September 22, 2025).

Edward dedicated 18 years to Flowerwood, joining us in 2007 after earning his horticulture degree from Mississippi State University. He built lasting relationships across our industry and was respected by everyone he met. A true plantsman, Edward loved many plants, especially eucalyptus for its beautiful, fragrant foliage (his backyard tree grew over 30 feet tall!). Rosemary, buddleia, gardenia, and lantana were also favorites.

Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, tennis, and college sports. He lived his faith through service with ministries including Samaritan’s Purse and Boys Town, and he cherished time spent on mission in Honduras.

Gearing up for something exciting! 🚜 On October 9th, we’re hosting an Equipment Rodeo for local high school students, in partnership with the Alabama Nursery & Landscape Association. Students will get a hands-on look at the equipment that keeps a production nursery running smoothly! 😮‍💨

Yesterday, our supervisors led a practice run, showcasing forklifts, tractors, trimming machines, an AirTec sprayer, and even our drone! 👷🏻‍♂️ Big thanks to our team for preparing to make this event both educational and fun.
