🔍 Butterflies, Botanical Gardens, & Math Detectives! 🦋
What an action-packed week of hands-on learning for our 2nd and 3rd graders!
Our 2nd graders wrapped up their Science unit on seed dispersal and pollinators in style! They took an inspiring field trip to the botanical gardens and welcomed a very special guest: Marty Powers, a monarch butterfly expert. Marty brought real-life butterflies and chrysalises, sharing the incredible journey of monarch migration.
Big News!!! The planning is under way at our school to support the monarch butterfly migration by creating our very own Monarch Butterfly Garden in the next two weeks! It will give monarchs a perfect resting stop along their migration route. More to come on this as we are working hard on trying to collect all the materials in time to make this happen!
🕵️♂️ Science wasn't the only mystery our 2nd graders solved this week! Equipping themselves with magnifying glasses and detective props, students worked in teams to crack open math word problem cases. They searched for missing clues to determine if the start, change, or result was unknown—and even tackled tricky two-step math mysteries!
🐛 3rd Grade Life Cycle Discoveries:
Our 3rd graders are also wrapping up their life cycles unit. They joined Marty's presentation and got to witness something truly astonishing—watching a chrysalis actually form in real time!
🎬 Coming Soon: 3rd graders are putting the final touches on their original Stop Motion Life Cycle videos. Keep an eye out for their amazing creations next week!
A huge thank you to Marty for sharing his knowledge and real-world wonders with our students! Please follow his FB page Ozarks for Monarchs!
