FAQ FRIDAY: Why Jen Henson & Team?

Because there’s a BIG difference between someone who has taken the ACT, someone who can answer ACT questions, and someone who knows how to teach the ACT to teenagers.

My team and I bring three things to the table:

🎯 We know the test.
👩‍🏫 We know how to teach.
🧑‍🎓 We know teens.

And that matters.

We don't believe ACT prep should be hours of lectures, endless worksheets, or throwing practice tests at a student and hoping their score goes up.

We believe in strategy-based teaching, interaction, accountability, current materials, and feedback.

And yes — we want students to improve their scores.

You know what having no power for two work days reminded me?

You don't appreciate a backup plan until you NEED one. 😂

Same goes for the ACT.

Don't wait until your college application deadline, scholarship deadline, or recruiting opportunity is staring you in the face to figure out your ACT game plan.

Know your deadlines. Know your target score. Know when you need to test.

A little planning NOW can save you a LOT of stress later.

And yes… I am taking my own advice and getting my business back on track today. 😂⚡

🚨 MYTH MONDAY! 🚨

“Fall ACT tests are too late for seniors.”

FALSE. 🙅‍♀️

If your senior hasn’t reached their ACT goal yet, DO NOT automatically assume the opportunity has passed!

Fall tests can still be valuable for:

✅ Improving an ACT score
✅ Superscoring
✅ College admissions
✅ Merit scholarships

And here’s the part I REALLY want parents to know:

🎓 Some scholarship deadlines are MUCH later than you might think. In some cases, ACT scores may still be relevant as late as next summer!

👉 The key: CHECK ALL DEADLINES.

One resource I love for researching merit scholarship deadlines and requirements is www.meritaidgrids.com.

Don’t assume that because it’s fall, your senior is out of time. Check the specific deadlines for the colleges AND scholarships your student is considering.

And if your senior still has room to improve their score, there may still be time to do something about it!

📩 Not sure when your student should test? MESSAGE ME “TIMELINE” and I’ll help you figure out a testing timeline based on your student’s goals and deadlines.

Too late? Maybe for some deadlines.

Q: When should my student start ACT or SAT prep?
A: Usually when they're about halfway through Algebra 2.
This surprises a lot of parents.
Many families assume they should wait until the spring of junior year (or *GASP* senior year!). In reality, students tend to get the best results when they begin after they've learned most of the Algebra 2 concepts.
Starting earlier gives students time to:
✔️ Learn the strategies without cramming
✔️ Test more than once if needed
✔️ Improve between test dates
✔️ Earn higher scores before college applications begin
Every student is different, which is why I recommend a personalized high school game plan rather than a one-size-fits-all timeline.
