Colorado Reading Solutions

Colorado Reading Solutions I offer specialized tutoring for students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities in grades 1-8.

Reading Solutions provides one-on-one specialized tutoring for children who are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling. I offer individualized, sequential, multisensory instruction which emphasizes phonemic awareness and phonics. The program used is based on Linguistic Remedies for Reading Disabilities, a hands-on program developed by Dr. Barbara Wise, president of Remedies for Reading Disabilities. I have been a teacher for over 35 years and have had a private Educational Therapy practice for 18 years.

What dyslexia teachers & therapists want other teachers to know… ❤️
Our students are working harder than you may realize.
They may read slowly, spell inconsistently, forget a word they knew yesterday, or need extra time to get their thoughts on paper. That doesn’t mean they aren’t trying, or that they aren’t capable.
Please remember:
❤️ Give them time to process.
❤️ Don’t make them read aloud unexpectedly.
❤️ Don’t take points off for spelling when spelling isn’t the skill being assessed.
❤️ Honor their accommodations-they are access, not an advantage.
❤️ Explicit instruction matters.
❤️ Celebrate growth, even when it comes in small steps.
And most importantly, see the student beyond the dyslexia. Their reading and spelling difficulties do not define their intelligence or their potential.
Dyslexia intervention helps, but a supportive classroom teacher makes a tremendous difference, too. 💯❤️

Teaching a child to read is not just another item on a teacher’s checklist. It is a responsibility with lifelong consequences. Reading opens access to education, opportunity, independence, and full participation in society. That is why how we teach reading matters so deeply.

Children don’t choose to struggle with reading.
But they do remember how those struggles made them feel. Children who can’t yet read well often carry invisible emotional burdens alongside their academic ones.
That’s why early identification and evidence-based reading instruction are so important.

Is holding a child with dyslexia back a good idea if they are behind? It depends on the child. Most experts don't think it's a good idea. The research is mixed, showing some short-term academic gains but longer-term problems with social/emotional development and self-esteem. One thing is for sure - having a child repeat a grade makes no sense if they will be receiving the same instruction and interventions they already had.
