Is holding a child with dyslexia back a good idea if they are behind? It depends on the child. Most experts don't think it's a good idea. The research is mixed, showing some short-term academic gains but longer-term problems with social/emotional development and self-esteem. One thing is for sure - having a child repeat a grade makes no sense if they will be receiving the same instruction and interventions they already had.

This month marks the nine-year anniversary when I was assessed by the amazing Jodi Clements from the Australian Dyslexia Association (ADA), and my official dyslexia and dysgraphia journey began.
It was the biggest relief to finally have an answer and in a strange way, having that answer set me free!
Not only did that mean I could work with my issues and get on with enjoying life, it also meant a whole new wonderful and supportive community invited me in.
Not only is Jodi THE dyslexia guru, she is also incredibly patient and caring & is never too busy to help me.
Thank you Jodi for your knowledge and your help but MOST of all, thank you for everything you do for our dyslexic community xx
