Not all questions are asking for the same thing.
All questions should exist to make students:
🧠 Think
💭 Believe
❤️ Feel
🛠️ Do
🚀 Prepare
And if you don’t know which one you’re asking…
your students don’t either.
Tonight I’ll break down:
✔️ how each one is different
✔️ what teachers get wrong
✔️ how to fix your questions immediately
This is one of the most practical shifts you can make in your classroom.

I was so excited to get the preview copy in the mail last night. This journal has been in the making for a long time!

I've come out of hibernation on X to give the mayor of NYC my two cents (well, twelve tweets) on his idea to dismantle the K-2 gifted program in NYC.
Spoiler: I'm not a fan of this idea.
You can read it here:

In case you're curious, "coruscating" means flashy, brilliant, or sparkling, but it can also mean severely critical or scathing...

Gifted kids are often obsessed with fairness and justice.
They have yet to meet the hill they won't die on.
And so the blatant unfairness of always expecting them to be the ones whose needs aren't met, who are expected to wait, who are expected to do the work of the whole group, is especially infuriating to them.
It's no surprise many of them resist or even reject school.
It's amazing not all of them do.

The moments when I'm setting up the AV and the huge room is empty, I am always mindful of the trust the conference organizers have placed in me. The word to describe what I feel is probably gravitas, but there is also excitement.

I hope I do them justice.

Andi McNair and I are Colorado bound, ready to keynote the Colorado gifted conference! Look out, Colorado, the Texans are on our way!
These two things have to be in place for differentiation to happen...anyone disagree?
Looking for quick differentiation ideas to get you started?
Here are a few that I was thinking about today!
Preparing a new keynote is a huge undertaking!
One of the last steps is that I record it and then listen over and over to practice the cadence and pacing.
My husband caught this video of me recording it, cozied up in the guest room.
I'll be debuting it where I debut all my keynotes, the Colorado gifted conference!!!

If you visit me, you'll notice this little "The House Recommends" sign perched on a stack of books in my guest room.
I change the books and the sign with the seasons. I have five versions (fall, winter, Christmas, spring, summer).
