The season of goodbyes has begun. This UPK class at Loveland Preschool is such a great bunch of kids! Tuesday was our last class together. I hope for a lovely summer of adventure and a fabulous kindergarten year for each of them!

Chilson Registration for summer classes is open and spots are filling up! Come join me for 2 sessions this summer. The June/July class will be held outside at a park and the July/August class will be inside at the Chilson center. Classes are for ages 3 months - 5 years.

I have spent about 40 years working with young children. Whether that was babysitting as a teenager, working in a childcare center to pay for college, as an early intervention music therapist and as an early childhood music teacher. After all these years, I am still learning lessons from them and applying them to my own life. Children truly understand what matters most and we sometimes we forget those things as adults and get caught up in the busyness of our lives.

Lately, I have been impacted by how children embrace fun and creativity in every environment they encounter. It's all about play. We adults would say that is a child's work after all, right? At a home day care music class today, a young boy caught my attention from the moment I walked in.

When I placed my wheeled music bag where I wanted, he immediately moved to it and started playing with the wheels. It is unique as it has three wheels on each side for going up and down stairs. He was fascinated with it, spinning one of the wheels back and forth and watching it. When handed rhythm sticks, he found so many creative ways to tap with it. Was he following directions? No. Was he stretching his mind and using creativity to find ways to use those sticks. YES! He was full in on every activity we did, laughing, smiling and having fun.

We could all use a little more of this approach to life. So go laugh, dance, or play a little today and let me know how it impacted your day.

September is always an exciting month at Key Magia Music! From classes at childcare centers and home day cares to a new season of adult/child classes at the Chilson Center, there is much to be thankful for. It has been wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones, too!
