About McCormick Elementary
McCormick Elementary School opened in September 2003 as one of four newly constructed elementary schools. It was named by the community for early settler and Methodist Circuit-riding Minister Francis D. McCormick marking our deep connection to the rich history of Milford, Miami Township, and Clermont County. McCormick has consistently been a high performing school earning Excellent ratings each year since opening. The State of Ohio recognized McCormick Elementary as Excellent with Distinction in 2010. This recognition underscores our mission to provide all learners with the highest quality education challenging them to realize their fullest potential. The McCormick Faculty is made up of a variety of individuals who bring their passions and talents to our learning community. Staff members are dedicated students themselves taking college courses during the summer and through out the school year in education, their content areas, and areas of high interest. These same staff members give back to our school in a variety of ways including providing peer training, mentoring, and sponsoring after school clubs or classes. The sponsored clubs such as Dragonfly Science, Environmental Clubs, as well as school sponsored, House Council, paper recycling, morning announcements can add something beyond books and study. In addition to these, opportunity exists to give back to our community through food and money drives for charities both local and regional. McCormick has a strong group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and has benefited from several of their projects within the building and on the grounds and trails around the school. McCormick enjoys the support of a strong Parent-Teacher Organization that sponsors cultural and academic events for our children, social events for our families, and financial support for our faculty and staff. Examples of these would be COSI on Wheels, Author Visits, Schoolhouse Symphony, Madcap Puppets, Artist in Residence, Tae Kwon Do, Dance, Foreign Languages, Science, Mini-Grants, Movie Night, Curriculum Nights, Fall Event, and Talent Show. In addition our connections to our local business community is strong with 19 Partners in Education who provide us with gifts in kind, donations, services, and volunteer hours to support our mission and programs. These partner relationships focus more on the developing the capacity of business to assist in the making learning real for our students. This can be done in a variety of ways limited only by the imagination of the business partner and the school. We appreciate our partners greatly and invite you to stop by to see the photos of our partners in the school lobby. It is our focus on the whole person, not just the academic that helps to make McCormick Elementary a special place to attend, work, and volunteer. It is this quality that helped to earn us the recognition of an Ohio Hall of Fame School in 2008. As the a visiting evaluation team member observed during the application process,
"I believe that McCormick Elementary School should be selected as a Hall of Fame School. When visiting McCormick Elementary I immediately felt the dedication and the commitment to student learning by teachers and staff members. The school climate radiated a sense of caring for the learning of each individual student and demonstrated a sense of mutual support for each other as educators. School programs strongly support student responsibility for behaviors and learning and foster a sense of belonging for students. The staff works together to identify student needs, implementing intervention strategies and to accept the responsibility for improving student learning."
