Enjoy this campus spotlight on a Sycamore tree "Thatโ€™s (Been) Out of This World" by our on-site naturalist Veronica Brannen.

Do you know this tree outside of one of our pre-primary classrooms?

Did you know that it has traveled with NASA to outer space?

With mottled bark of white, grey, pink, and light green patches it is one of the easiest trees to identify in our area. The Sycamore, Platanus occidentalis, is found growing along the banks of the Little Miami River, Oโ€™Bannon Creek, and other streams and wet habitats. It can grow to a height of almost 100 feet making it one of the largest broadleaf trees native to Ohio and can live almost 300 years. With its single massive trunk and wide spreading crown, the Sycamore behind PP1 is a sight to behold in any season.

This particular tree actually germinated in space! In the 1990s, it was part of a NASA experiment to study the effects of seed germination and space travel. A CMH family had access to some of these special plants and donated the tree to our school, making it a very special tree indeed!

Come check it out! Schedule a tour or join us at our Fall Open House on October 18th 10am-12pm.

It's Time Travel Tuesday and we are going back in time to Y2k! Grab your flip phones and run some gel through your frosted tips as we peruse the pages of the 2000-2001 CMH yearbook!

Little did I know when I got this yearbook in first grade that one day I would join the โ€œOffice Staffโ€ yearbook page alongside Margaret in 2025. And that some CMH teachers would stick around long enough for me to come back.

The more I go through the CMH archives the more things seem to stay the same. Familiar names and faces as CMH kids become CMH parents.

Calling all alumni! Come visit me at Forest Festival, Iโ€™ll be at the alumni table with decades of yearbooks to flip through. See you there!

We are so lucky to have community partners who believe in what we're building at CMH. Their contribution is helping make two of our five fun activity stations a reality for our families on September 12th.

Itโ€™s time for another Time Travel Tuesday! This week, in honor of our current Middle Schoolers preparing for a camping trip to Hocking Hills, we are going to go back in time to the early 1990s to one of our senior trips!

The senior trip was a time honored tradition in which our oldest students were rewarded with a special get away off campus. CMH students have traveled to Gatlinburg, Red River Gorge, New York City, West Virginia, and Mammoth Cave to name just a few places. Since CMH has now expanded to include 7th and 8th grade - that tradition is now carried out by our Middle School!

In the pictures below, you can see CMH teachers John Phenix and Martha Ramsey with their senior class students including Annie Collins, Emily Richey, Amanda Mohar and Grace Lee. Recognize any others? Tag them below!

๐ŸŽ‰ CMH RENOVATION REVEAL: The Multi-Purpose Room Has Officially Glowed UP! ๐ŸŽ‰

Grab your popcorn, because this is the CMH version of a home renovation show finale โ€” and the big reveal did NOT disappoint. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธโœจ

Thanks to YOU โ€” our incredible CMH community โ€” and the record-breaking $13,800 paddle raise at the 2026 Giving Garden Auction & Gala, the Multi-Purpose Room has been completely transformed! What was once a well-loved space is now a bright, functional, welcoming hub for students and staff to gather, learn, and celebrate every single day. ๐Ÿ’›

Swipe through for the before โžก๏ธ after โ€” trust us, it's dramatic. ๐Ÿ‘€

This renovation was truly a labor of love, made possible by the generosity sparked at Gala and the hands and hearts of an amazing crew:

๐Ÿ”จ Project lead: Crissy Cole
๐Ÿ™Œ With incredible support from: Andrew Rinner, Sarah Dejager, Brandon Cole, Paul Karnell, Melissa Doughty, Cody Rush-Ossenbeck, Kristin Brandstetter, Brooke DeSantis (Bike Trail Books), Lenora Oeters, Dayna Tyhurst, and Christina Reinerman

We cannot thank this team enough โ€” this room is a gift to every CMH student who walks through its doors. ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’ซ

This is what happens when a community shows up for its school. CMH, you did this.

Want to be part of the next big reveal? Reach out to Jess Anderson at [email protected] to learn more about fundraising at CMH.

It's Time Travel Tuesday!

Back in the early 1980s, CMH teacher Stephen Richey taught students the oldest known method for turning clay pots into ceramic art - bonfires! Students nestled their clay creations in a small hole in the ground and built a huge bonfire on top - so big that the Maineville Fire Department gave Stephen a ticket. Donโ€™t worry families, CMH is lucky enough to now have electric kilns for our students' pottery lessons.
