When it comes to engine oil, MOTUL 8100 X-cess Gen2 is the gold standard. It’s what we trust in our clients’ G Wagons, and just as importantly, it’s what we run in our own.
In our newest YouTube video, we’re breaking down the correct fluids for four generations of Mercedes G Wagons, covering everything from engine oil and coolant to differentials, transfer cases, power steering, and more. We explain not only what we use, but why we’ve chosen these products after years of working on these trucks.
Whether you’re maintaining your G yourself or just want to know what should be going into it, this is the guide we wish every owner had.
And yes: a downloadable fluid cheat sheet covering all four generations is on the way.

This G looks gorgeous now, but the first “finished product” was so bad that we had to pull the ENTIRE wrap off after a disastrous vinyl install.
With peeling edges, bubbling, seams cut in crazy places, and fitment issues, we simply weren’t willing to deliver it to the client. The doors didn’t even shut correctly.
Instead of hoping nobody noticed, we started over from scratch and had the truck rewrapped the right way, thanks to EVOLVE GRAPHIC SOLUTIONS in Fort Collins.
If we wouldn’t accept it on our own vehicle, we won’t ask you to accept it on yours.
The full story, including what went wrong, why it happened, and what to look for before trusting someone with your vehicle, is live now on our YouTube channel.

🚨 FOR SALE - More Pics + Walkaround Video, Coming soon. 🚨
This 1999 G500 Short Wheel Base is one of 10 known examples in North America. Finished in Black Opal with 151k miles, it features Brabus wheels, projector LED headlights, a G63 front bumper, an updated head unit, and freshly upholstered perforated leather front seats and door cards.
More importantly, it hasn’t already been turned into someone else’s project. It drives beautifully and is an incredible foundation for thoughtful upgrades.
In the interest of complete transparency, the paint does have areas that need attention. You’ll see that clearly in our upcoming walkaround video. It’s a straightforward cosmetic issue, and in our opinion, a small tradeoff for a truck this difficult to find.
The reality is simple: paint can be fixed. Finding another factory SWB like this is a different story.
Give us a call with any questions, and stay tuned for the full walkaround and drive video. Visit nothingbutgs.com for the full listing.

We love newer G’s too, but there’s something to be said for some old school minimalism, and this one is all the G you really need. How do we feel about some interior photos?

🇯🇵 G of the Week
SomeShinagawa best G-Wagens aren’t on a mountain pass or parked in front of a luxury hotel.
Sometimes they’re at the mechanic... after dark.
This W463A G400d was tucked inside an auto repair shop in Shinagawa, with the mechanic still hard at work. That’s something we noticed all over Tokyo: people take incredible care of their vehicles. Whether it was a kei car, a delivery van, or a six-figure Mercedes, everything seemed meticulously maintained and remarkably clean.
One of the biggest surprises was just how common G-Wagens are. It wasn’t unusual to see a couple every day, and the variety was even better. Alongside the familiar G550s and G63s were G400ds, G350ds, and other diesel models that most enthusiasts in the U.S. rarely get the chance to see in person.
It’s a reminder that every G has a story. Some are crawling over rocks, some are crossing continents, and some are simply getting ready for another perfectly maintained day on the streets of Tokyo.

🚨G of the Week: Kyle’s 2009 AMG G55 🚨
Kyle hit us up with some awesome pictures you don’t usually see of a G Wagon, and honestly, we couldn’t ignore them.
His story starts in the late ’90s, staring at a scale model G in a hobby store and deciding right then that he wanted the real thing someday. Fast forward a few decades, and he found a solid deal on basically the exact truck he had always wanted: a 2009 AMG G55 with the supercharged M113K V8.
Kyle is an Air Force JTAC, and after working around other countries’ units, he knew firsthand that these things weren’t just luxury boxes on wheels. They were absolute beasts off-road. So when he got his hands on this one, he set it up to prove that point.
The truck has 135k miles, a 2018 front-end and wheel update, 60mm Eurowise springs, Bilstein reservoir struts, 33-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers, JWO high-clearance rock sliders, and an MBRP high-clearance exhaust.
Inside, it’s been brought up to date with a Pioneer Apple CarPlay floating head unit, Alpine speakers, a sub mount, and blacked-out wood grain.
It’s exactly the kind of G we love seeing: used, upgraded, personal, and built by someone who actually understands what these trucks are capable of.
Thanks for sending it in, Kyle.
