Today, we mark the very first International Day of Nomadic Heritage!
For centuries, nomadic peoples have connected societies, enabling the circulation of ideas, languages, and cultural traditions. Their heritage also reflects a profound knowledge of seasons, pastures, water, animals and ecosystems, transmitted across generations, often by women, who remain among its principal custodians.
Protecting their heritage therefore means safeguarding cultural practices and knowledge that can contribute to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and sustainable ways of living.
On this first International Day, let us ensure that this continues to be recognized, transmitted and shared as part of our common history and a resource for our shared future.
