The University of Louisville Equine Industry Program is proud to spotlight Dr. Lauren Proctor-Brown, Equine Business alumna from the Class of 2013 and current Veterinarian/Owner of Resolute Equine Sports Medicine and Director of Ocala Polo Club.
Lauren credits the Equine Industry Program with helping launch her career through the connections that led to her first position at an equine veterinary practice—an opportunity that ultimately helped her gain acceptance to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. ”The Equine Industry Program gave me a strong knowledge of the many facets of the equine industry, from racing to show horses, and directly impacted the scope of my veterinary practice. The business education, from marketing to accounting, gave me a strong foundation to starting not only my veterinary practice but also Team Resolute and Ocala Polo Club and looking at the equine industry through the eyes of an entrepreneur.”
As a small business owner, Lauren says she uses nearly every skill she learned in the program, from accounting and marketing to event management.
💡 Advice for Current Students:
“Combine your passion for horses with a strong foundation in business so you can be both financially stable and fulfilled as you follow your dreams into an equine career.”
❤️ Favorite UofL Memory:
“Too many fun times! From countless sporting events—from the Kentucky Derby to the Sugar Bowl—and my time on the Rowing Team to countless hours on campus with my friends and classmates.”
🐴 Fun Fact:
Lauren originally came to UofL on an athletic scholarship for rowing. She chose Louisville over other scholarship offers because the rowing coach introduced her to the Equine Industry Program and emphasized the value of earning a business degree before veterinary school.
“Having a business degree in addition to going to vet school was the best advice anyone gave me. Still true today.”
Thank you, Dr. Proctor-Brown, for representing the Cardinal spirit and demonstrating the impact of combining equine passion with business expertise!

A wonderful piece on our Equine Business Certificate student, Lauren Bloss! ✨🐎
Every May, Churchill Downs draws global attention as the Kentucky Derby signals the arrival of the sport’s most celebrated season. While the event is known for its pageantry, marked by designer hats, mint juleps and celebrity attendees, at the heart of the Derby are 20 Thoroughbreds vying for the coveted garland of roses.
However, for all the attention paid to the Derby’s tradition and spectacle, far less is said about what happens to those horses once the racing ends – horses whose careers are short and futures uncertain.
That reality is what drew University of Louisville May 2026 Equine Business certificate graduate Lauren Bloss deeper into this area of the equine industry. Working alongside former champion jockey Rosie Napravnik, Bloss is helping retired racehorses transition into new roles beyond the track. Learn more about Bloss's internship experience and plans for the future at https://business.louisville.edu/news/beyond-finish-line
